PFA  News

We Need You!

As you’ll see below, and from Qkr and Compass, the PFA is always buys organising fun events for our students, and raising funds to support important initiatives and resources for the school.

We can always use an extra hand (or 10!).  We are currently looking for:

  • Event helpers - Helping out from time to time is a great way to bring fun events to life for the students, connect with other parents, and to get a glimpse into primary school life!  Volunteering opportunities are always listed at https://signup.com/go/rfQFDNp.  They take place on different days and times so hopefully you will find something that suits your schedule.  Please check back regularly, as new opportunities are constantly updated throughout the term. The link can always be found in the Compass notification titled ‘PFA Volunteering Opportunities’, dated April 4th.
  • Treasurer - Our wonderful Treasurer of over 10 years, Karen Phillips, finished her time as a parent of the school at the end of last year.  Do you have a passion for numbers?  Are you scintillated by spreadsheets?  If so, we would love your help with the PFA finance reporting.  Key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Maintenance of the CPS PFA Finance spreadsheet, for year-on-year analysis.
  • Monthly (periodic) finance reporting
  • Responding to queries from PFA Members and the school’s Business Manager (Pip Sciffer)
  • AGM finance reporting
  • Involvement in significant fundraising events (i.e. fete) and float requirements

The time commitment is a few hours per month.  If this sounds like something you could help with, please email us at pfa@carnegieps.vic.edu.au to let us know.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Eggstraordinary Easter Raffle

A fun morning was enjoyed on the last day of Term 1, with many students sporting

Easter inspired accessories, and big smiles, as the paperless raffle was drawn!

An enormous thank you again to generous local businesses Lizzy’s Chocolates and

Print on Wood, as well as to Mark Fisher, Candice Hall, Lucy Gow and all the other

PFA volunteers, staff and Grade 6 school leaders who helped to make the raffle

such a success.

Congratulations to Heid P from prep who won the 1st prize of the giant egg from Lizzy's.

Mothers’ Day and Gifts of Appreciation Stall

Mothers’ Day will be celebrated across Australia on Sunday 14th May.  At Carnegie PS, Mothers’ Day is a time to celebrate all the important women in our lives - Mums, Grandmas, Aunties, friends, teachers and more!

The PFA is running 2 lovely events for this month to help celebrate the Women of CPS.

As in previous years, the PFA has organised a range of beautiful gifts, and children will have the opportunity to select and purchase one of these for someone special to them (during school time), on Tuesday 9th May.  Gifts will be priced between $2 and $6.  If your child would like to take part in the gift stall, please send a small amount of money to school with them on this day (coins and small notes much appreciated if possible, as change is limited).

Celebrating the Women of CPS - Thursday 18th May

For the past few years, the PFA has hosted a breakfast in May.  Thank you to those of you who have supported the breakfast, we have had lovely feedback from many people about how much they have enjoyed it.  We have also had lots of requests to schedule a lunch time or evening celebration instead in some years.

We are excited to announce that this year's celebration will be a Thursday evening social event!  Please join us on Thursday 18th May from 7pm, at Rodolfo's in Ormond.  Tickets are on sale in Qkr now, and numbers are limited, so please buy yours soon!

Apple and Pear Fundraiser

With the end of Term 1 bringing plenty of indulgences with our Hot Cross Bun drive, and Easter Raffle, the PFA is once again kicking off Term 2 with something a little lighter, healthier and more wholesome – a fruit fundraiser!

Every year, Sherwood Park Orchard receives plenty of eager visitors to pick their own fruit.  The PFA has again organised for Sherwood Park Orchard to pick apples and pears for us.  Choice includes Pink Lady and Granny Smith apples, as well as Packham pears – each are $7.50 for a 2kg bag – a great price for farm fresh fruit, delivered direct to Carnegie!  Every 2kg bag sold will bring just over $2 back to the school.

Orders are open in Qkr until Monday 15th May, and pick up will be from school on Friday 19th May.

PFA Popcorn Days

Last year, the PFA were the lucky recipients of a huge popcorn machine, donated by James Kondarovskis (Dad of Ruth in Grade 1 and Victor in Grade 3), from the Superpop Group - thank you James and Superpop!

In the winter months, Fridays @ CPS will be all about freshly popped popcorn, instead of icypoles!  Popcorn will be available at lunch time for $1 a bag.  Ingredients are gluten and dairy free.

Popcorn will be on sale to students in Grades Prep - 2 on the following dates:

Years 3-6 on the following dates:

Credit and thanks to Lucy Gow (Mum of Harvey in Grade 4) for the awesome CPS popcorn artwork (@lucygow_illustration); and to Lee Vu (Mum of Audrey in Grade 4 and Adeline in Grade 2) for the taste bud tantalising promotional video - both shown below.

Shifts to help with popcorn days are listed on SignUp - it’s a fun and tasty way to spend a couple of hours, and be very popular with your kids!

Looking ahead ….

We have lots more fun activities on the radar this Term (and beyond!).

Please save the dates for:

  • Free range Egg Fundraiser - Thursday 1st June
  • Australia’s Biggest Morning tea and Cupcake Day - Tuesday 6th June
  • Sushi Day - Thursday 15th June

We are also working on a student disco and parent trivia night in term 3 - dates and more details to follow as they are confirmed.
