From the  Principal

Karen Roberts

I hope this message finds you all well and that your children are enjoying the start of the new term. We encourage you to talk to your children about their learning goals for this term and how they plan to achieve them. This will help them take ownership of their learning and stay motivated throughout.

PREP 2024 SCHOOL EXPO/OPEN MORNING - WEDNESDAY 10TH MAY

  • Do you have a prep child ready for school in 2024?
  • Do you know of a neighbour, a friend or a relative that has a child who will be eligible to start school in 2024?

Our CPS Expo will be held Wednesday 10th May from 9.30am – 11.00am.

We encourage prospective families to join us on this occasion, so we can share many of the fine aspects of our school. Enrolments for 2024 will be taken after the Expo.

Enrolment paperwork can be collected from our school office and will also be available on our school’s website from Friday 5th May.

DET ACCOUNTABILITY AND ANNUAL REPORTING

As part of accountability requirements, a report is provided to the school community each year for the previous year. This Annual Report was submitted to the Department of Education and was presented to School Council at our March meeting. This report is now available on request from the office and has been placed on our school website.

Copies of our Strategic Plan and 2023 Annual Implementation Plan are also available for viewing on our website. These important documents outline the key goals and priorities that Carnegie Primary School is focusing on.

THE PLAYGROUND

For many students, playtime is the best part of the school day. Playing with friends, running around and engaging in creative and organised games is a healthy way to learn and grow socially and emotionally. For some students, the playground can be challenging so we offer a range of activities for all to enjoy and to strengthen play and social skills.

Lunch time Clubs Timetable

(all clubs will take place during the first half of lunchtime)

CURRICULUM DAY - NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

The next Curriculum Day approved by School Council is Wednesday 24th May. On this occasion staff will be focusing on Assessment and Reporting.

Youth Leadership will offer an OSHC program on this day.

STAFFING NEWS

We would like to announce that Amy Carhart, Teacher of Grade 3A is expecting her first child later this year. She and her partner, Dion are over the moon; such an exciting and special time in their life. We wish them both the joy and happiness that comes with welcoming a new life into the world.

We welcome Hayden Dickson to the team at CPS. He will be our school’s maintenance person, supporting weekly clean-up of the yard. It is envisaged that he may be able to manage / coordinate some of our works associated with the Rolling Facilities Evaluation – a report prepared once every 4 years that identifies works that need to be completed in the school including: painting, plastering, damaged/leaking roof work (plumbing), plastering (drywall finishing), building, carpentry, electrical, floor layer, fencing, tiling, structural engineer.

Cheryl Laing, who worked as our school’s tutor has been appointed to an acting Learning Specialist role with Virtual Schools Victoria. We expect Cheryl to return in 2024. We wish her well with her new adventure and look forward to welcoming her back in 2024.

Sarah Lockett has returned from family leave and has taken on the tutoring position. Sarah is already well known in our school community as a classroom teacher.

We farewelled a couple of staff last term:

Kirra King and Abbey Pomeroy who replaced Sarah Cochrane for much of term 1. We appreciate their amazing efforts to ensure a wonderful start to the school year for our year 2 students.

Josh Acklom is on leave for term 2. Replacing him are Abbey Pomeroy and Desiree Oh. Both teachers are ongoing members of Carnegie Primary School, with experience teaching year 2. They know the students and teachers well. They will work with the Year 2 team (including Amanda Dowsett, Sarah Cochrane, Steph Lipson and Amy Travers) to ensure the learning program continues without interruption.

Looking forward to a fabulous, productive term.
