Reducing Our Environmental Impact

Throughout the Fair planning process, the Fair Committee have endeavoured to minimise waste and ensure that the event is as sustainable as possible.

You can do your bit to support our sustainability efforts on the day by:

  • Bring a reusable bag to carry your Fair purchases.
  • BYO coffee cups and water bottles, even picnic plates for your lunch.
  • Making sure you use the right bin on Fair Day.

Here are some of the ways we’ve reduced the environmental impact across the Fair before you even arrive on Saturday:

  • Soft Drinks: cans only (no plastic bottles or juice poppers/boxes).
  • Lollies: using paper bags, not plastic.
  • Bar: biodegradable cups at the bar, glass bins for recycling glass and cans will be recycled.
  • Food trucks: biodegradable plates.
  • Choc Tops & Coconut Icys: soft plastics will be recycled through Reground, a social enterprise based in Alphington.
  • Cake Stall: using leftover packaging from previous events to avoid landfill.
  • Coffee Cart: encouraging BYO reusable cups & no disposable coffee cup lids.
  • Books: any books remaining at the end of the day will be donated to Lautoka Primary School in Fiji.
  • Adopt a Toy: zero packaging, and new homes have been arranged for any toys not adopted.
  • Lucky Dip: using paper bags rather than wrapping paper, so it can be recycled.
  • Waste: diverting food waste & using families’ green waste bins to support this.
  • Publicity: reducing printing & using cardboard corflutes instead of plastic as in previous years.
  • Fair & stall signage: reusing previous years and borrowing from nearby schools.
  • Sharing tables, chairs and equipment with nearby schools.
