We are excited to announce that Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin AO, Senior Aboriginal Elder of the Wurundjeri People, will lead a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony at 9am, on Friday 31 March at the fig tree courtyard.

We invite all family members to join our students and staff at the ceremony, acknowledging the Wurundjeri People as the traditional custodians of the lands on which the school Fair will be held.

A smoking ceremony is an ancient Aboriginal custom that involves burning various native plants to produce smoke, which has cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits from the people and the land and make a pathway for a brighter future. Aunty Joy will invite those present to join her in placing green gum leaves on the fire, while welcoming families onto the land of the Wurundjeri people.

Aunty Joy also wrote the picture book Welcome to Country, a familiar book to many of our students
