Swimming Program

During Week 10 and 11 the PFoundation to Year 4 students engaged in a two week intesive swimming program. The feedback from the instructors and teachers was that the students were fantastic in the way the listened, behaved and challenged themselves to improve throughout the program.

Thank you to all the families support of the program and for making sure the students were prepared with all the necessary gear each day. Thank you also to the staff who gave up break times and did extra duties to ensure that the program could go ahead.

Cross Country:

As we approach the end of the term, it is exciting to have the Running Club up and going! It is particularly exciting given we are approaching our Cross Country running season in Term 2 which means there is an opportunity to represent our school. The House Cross Country for Year 3-6 will be held at Nettleton Park on the morning of May 2nd, Week 2 in Term 2. All students will participate in this event to gain House points, even if they need to walk some of the course. There is a map attached for anyone wishing to go and have a practice over the holidays. We are seeking Volunteers to assist with the running of the day. If you are available and can assist on the morning, please contact Mrs Aldcroft on kaldcroft@scgleniris.catholic.edu.au

The Glen Iris District Cross Country race is scheduled to be held on 23rd May at Nettleton Park and is open to selections for students who turn 9 and older this year. Age groupings will be determined by the age of the student in 2023 (Eg. 9 year old age group; turns 9 in 2023). The top 10 finishers from the House Cross Country from each age category will be invited to represent St Cecilia’s.

Running Club:

Running Club is a wonderful opportunity for students in the Years 3 to 6 to participate in some running and fun activities which are designed to improve fitness. As the focus is on running, each week students will be encouraged to improve their stamina by tracking the number of laps of the school they can complete in a short period of time. The games we play are based around different aspects of running and fitness such as speed, agility and power. Running Club is held on Tuesday mornings from 7:50 am to 8:30 am and we will meet in the undercroft. Parents must fill in the permission form via Google Forms distributed earlier this term and students must sign themselves in each week. T-shirts are available for $10 from Mrs Aldcroft, Mr Mooney or Mrs Galgani and can be worn for the training session. Students should change into their sport uniform after each session please.

Physical Education:

Our focus in PE lessons this term has been on Invasion games, playing Basketball, Lacrosse and Aussie Rules. We have been very fortunate to have clinics provided by the Camberwell Lacrosse Club and the AFL and the sessions have been brilliant! The skill development has been amazing! We should keep our eyes open in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics if Lacrosse is being played as I think some of our students will definitely represent Australia! Incredible talent right here at St Cecilia’s! Please contact the Camberwell Lacrosse Club if you would like to go and try a session out.

Auskick is also about to begin - refer to the flyer attached for our local centre - thank you to the AFL Victoria program which has provided two free sessions to every student at St Cecilia’s this year as a part of their school clinic program.

Interschool Sport:

We look forward to the Year 5 and 6’s participating in Softball, Soccer and Netball in the upcoming Term 2 Interschool Sports. If you have any expertise in these sports and would like to volunteer as an umpire please let Mrs Aldcroft know via email.

Congratulations:

We would like to congratulate Josh Bolton in Year 6 for representing St Cecilia’s at the Boroondara Division Tennis tournament on Tuesday. He made it through to the semi-finals and played a hard fought match. Josh represented the school and himself to the best of his ability and did such a wonderful job on the day. Well done!

Congratulations to Jake Reed in Year 5 who had a big weekend recently running in the State Athletics Championships. Whilst this was a club event, it is still a wonderful achievement that we recognise and congratulate him on winning a bronze medal in the Under 11 1500m race in a time of 4 mins 53.

We also some very exciting news regarding Sam Judd in Year 6, who has been representing our school through trialling for the Team Vic Cricket team. Just yesterday we received some fantastic news that Sam has in fact made it through to the Vic U12 cricket team. What a great achievement. This process involves an enormous trial number and is highly competitive. Only 13 make it through to play in Darwin in June. Well done Sa

If your child participates in a sport at a high level and you would like to let us know of their achievements, please email to kaldcroft@scgleniris.catholic.edu.au
