What an incredible day at Healesville Sanctuary on Wednesaday. A big thank you to our teachers and parents who came along!

Grade 3 News

Year 3 news

We have really enjoyed the Swimming Intensive over the last two weeks, and watching the students meet personal goals in the pool.  For some, it was the building of water confidence.  Others learned to frog kick, and some refined established strokes.

Travelling on the bus was an additional highlight, and all students had the opportunity to manage their own belongings and demonstrate growing independence.

Congratulations to our wonderful Year 3s on their successful completion of this important annual program!

YEAR SIX LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

We were very excited to participate in the GRIP STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE.  The GRIP Student Leadership Conference was unique in that it concentrated specifically on training student leaders for their role as SCHOOL LEADERS. The style, topics, and content of this conference all focus on what the students can do RIGHT NOW.

The goal of the day was for our student leaders to leave the conference with a clear vision, a solid understanding and dozens of ideas for their time as a leader.

Year 6 Leader

Thoughts about the Leadership Day

LucasI loved the GRIP leadership day; I got a lot of ideas, including how to launch new ideas!
JamesGrip taught me how to improve upon my leadership, and I was able to learn and talk to other leaders as well.
ClaudiaThe grip leadership program helped me a lot with being a better leader, like listening to other people's opinions. I also liked how much they let me talk to others. I made so many new friends.
EmilyThe Grip Leadership helped me improve by being a leader, and I got to talk to other leaders and what they had different from our school, and I have made many more friends.
EleanorOne thing I really took out of this conference was being an ‘others first’ leader. This made me believe that if you can support others in their ideas and get others on board, then your idea/s with their ideas will be successful. And if it doesn't work out, that’s ok, try again.
SierraI thought that the conference was really encouraging me to be a better leader, I got a lot of interesting information and learned a lot for the future. My favourite thing was the games. I learnt how to responsibly talk to other leaders as well.
NikkiI loved the GRIP Leadership day! I loved the games and I learnt a lot about how to be a leader. I learnt how to support other people's ideas and if they don’t turn out well then just move on.
ChiaraThe grip leadership program was such a great experience. I loved that all the schools had a chance to talk together and learn their way of leadership at their school. A lot of people had different ways of leadership and as a school, we definitely learnt a lot. My favourite part was dominating a student from our class to go up without knowing what they do and play games.
VirajI loved doing the GRIP Leadership Day. I learnt so many things about how to become a better leader. It was so cool on the day because we actually rode on a train! There were also so many schools. There were over 200 schools!
AlexThe GRIP leadership program was such a big help as it has improved my leadership skills exponentially. I definitely feel way more confident with my leadership skills.
SamThe GRIP day was awesome, I learnt so much and I will definitely look to use some of the ideas in the future. I learnt a lot about how to be a great leader and it really helped me and all of the Yr.6’s.

Welcome Garden has been introduced!

Lois Chieng

The welcome garden was opened to everyone just recently. It is given its name to welcome visitors/students into our school. To me, I think it captures the scenery of a forest.

The welcome garden has rocks to sit and relax on, a flowing river and a pond. It invites others to our school and gives a sense of peace. It is enjoyable and once again peaceful. You can see the fishes that zoom around in the pond, which we try to spot every morning. “Lots of parents and relatives have enjoyed it thoroughly,” one of the students says.

The construction of the garden had been going on throughout the holidays and it started during the summer season last year. It took up a lot of space in our  school. While it was still in construction, the SRC’s were lucky enough to go inside the welcome garden and water and plant the plants. But in the end we made it, and it was a great success.

The welcome garden has had a lot of compliments and is a great accomplishment. From my point of view, it is a great place to work and play. It gives us responsibility and I think improves our school a lot.

The welcome garden is a great place to be and enjoy. Not only is it relaxing but also it gives us responsibility and lets us have fun. Like its name, it welcomes others!

New trees at ‘St C’s’

Harry Pear

Over the summer holidays of 2023 some builders were working hard to make a new garden at St.Cecilia's Glen Iris. The garden consists of some new rocks, lots of new plants and trees and a new river with fish in it.

Kids are loving the new garden, some have even found their new favourite rock. It provides a great place for kids to sit and relax if they don’t want to play sports.

Although the new garden is great the school also had to lay down the new laws. The rules are no jumping from rock to rock, no walking on the garden beds and don’t pump the water in too quickly otherwise the pump will break.

This garden is already great, but it is not done yet, the school plans to add on seven more stages scattered all over and around the school. Although it is not very clear how this will look I am sure it will be just as great as this part!

Our New School Garden

Tom Davey

Over the past 4-6 weeks our school has been building a new garden for our school. In the new garden there are new water systems, rocks and fish. But to me I think the water pump is easily the most fun to play with.

In the pond there are four goldfish that bite you if your finger is in the water. The fish are scared of us so the only time you will really see them is when the water is flat.

We also got some new trees. As you can see in the photo those trees are brand new.

But this is not the end, our school is also planning to make seven more stages of the new renovation, but sadly they said that me and my friends might not be at the school to see the renovation finish all the stages.

New Garden

Fletcher Bye

Guess what our school has? A brand new garden and it looks stunning. We even have a pond that has real living fish in it.

There is a water pump as well. It is so cool. The water pump puts out  water into the pond and the lines are pretty big for a small school. Most of the time the younger kids use it and some of the older kids use it too but not as much.

Then the garden bed. The garden beds have lots of plants and we are not allowed to step on the garden beds because all the plants will get destroyed and make the garden  look really bad.

There is a little waterfall that goes along the garden beds and the rocks. You are allowed to sit on the rocks and chat. It is a relaxing place to be.
