Junior School

The Junior School has had a lovely, settled start to the term. This week it was important to commemorate ANZAC Day. I had the privilege of joining students from the Springwood campus in the big March and ceremony at Springwood on Tuesday. Our students proudly marched, many wearing medals from family members and able to talk about the significance of the day. Our students were supported by some members of the Senior School student leadership team and it was wonderful to have them march with us. We have also held services at both services and I was proud of the childrens’ respectful attitudes and reflections about the day.

Over the holidays, the Early Years team at Wentworth Falls have been working on a new creative space – The Atelier.  Atelier is a French word, meaning artists' workspace. Our young artists at Wentworth Falls now have a beautiful, organized and creative space where they can have their Visual Arts lessons and many other lessons too. Children will have lots of scope to explore their ideas through Art across many of their lessons, in wet lunchtimes and on Thursdays at lunch, with Ms Walters starting up a new club. Thank you of course to Mr Collins who has helped very practically with creating this space.

The staff at Springwood will be working through research and practice in the area of ‘Loose Parts Play’ this term, and we look forward to telling students and parents more about this exciting project. Children at Springwood have been benefitting from some new play resources, generously organized by the P&F and the children and staff are grateful for these excellent new things.

Finally – I invite our parents back to our assemblies this term as we explore the wellbeing theme “Ingredients of Play”. Each class will contribute to this and love to have parents come and see what they have prepared.
