Senior School

Welcome to Term 2!
For many of our students the term began in the pre-dawn darkness of Tuesday morning, with students attending and participating in ANZAC Day services across the Blue Mountains. BMGS has a long and proud ANZAC Day tradition, with students donning their uniforms to lay wreaths, give readings and even give ANZAC Day Addresses in each of our village communities. I was particularly proud of those students who did not have specific roles to play, but showed up with their families in in full School Uniform anyway. When we consider the character traits we hope to grow in our young people here at BMGS, gratitude, respect and self-sacrifice for the good of others are high on the list. Such things cannot be taught, but rather must be modelled and learned through shared experience. I am confident that for the many young people joining their communities across the Blue Mountains earlier this week, the experience will have been an important one.
On a pragmatic note, students and families are encouraged to settle back quickly into the organisational routine of term-time. Coming back to School can be a shock for many, who have enjoyed the more relaxed nature of the holiday break. With sporting, co-curricular and other commitments already back in full swing, however (don’t forget our fabulous musical Xanadu starts next week!), it is important for students to re-establish the daily routines that ensure uniforms are cleaned and ironed, lunches and school-books are packed, and laptops are charged.
I am looking forward to an exciting term ahead!
