Assistant Principal's Report

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you all had a fantastic holiday break and had the chance to rest, relax and enjoy quality time with your loved ones. We can't wait to catch up with you all and hear about your adventures.

Our staff are buzzing with excitement for the upcoming Term, as we've got some awesome events on the horizon. Our Year 5/6 students will be heading out on an epic camp to Golden Valleys, we have a select group of year 3-6 students representing our school at the District Cross Country event, and we've got some very talented students continuing to rehearse for the Victorian State Schools Spectacular. In addition, we have some awesome excursions being planned that are sure to keep everyone entertained!

MOTHERS DAY

Mother's Day is just around the corner. This year, our wonderful Parents and Friends group have gone above and beyond to make this day extra special for all our mums and special people. We are excited to announce that Orchard Park PS will be having its first-ever Mother's Day stall. The stall will be stocked with a series of small items that students can purchase for their mums or special people. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to show their appreciation and love for their mums by picking out a thoughtful gift. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information about the stall on Compass and our Facebook Page.

PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Teacher Interviews are coming up on Tuesday 16th of May between 2:15pm and 8:00pm. These interviews are a fantastic opportunity to discuss your child's academic and interpersonal development with their Classroom Teacher(s). We encourage you to attend as it can be a valuable way to gain insight into your child's progress, as well as to share any questions or concerns you may have.

We will be sending out a Compass message early next week to inform all families of when bookings will be open and how to book. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred time slot.

MOVING INTO THE TEEN YEARS

This Term, our Year 5 and 6 students will participate in the 'Moving into the Teen Years' (MITTY) program. The program, led by an external educator, aims to provide our students with accurate information about the changes they will experience as they transition into adolescence. Each year level will engage in three 90-minute sessions, covering topics such as puberty, body changes, and emotional regulation. We understand that this can be a sensitive topic for some families, and as such, we will be hosting a Parent Information session at 5:30 pm on Tuesday the 2nd of May. This session will be an excellent opportunity for parents to learn about the program and the content being taught, as well as ask any questions they may have. We look forward to supporting our students as they navigate this next stage of their development.

HOT MILOS

As you may be aware, when students demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Safety, they are rewarded with Spark Bucks. Students save up their Spark Bucks and can purchase a range of different prizes from the Prize Menu. Some of the more expensive prizes include 30mins of Nintendo Switch time with Mr Jagoe, a Cooking Class with Miss Sutherland or a class pyjama day.

Alongside the Spark Buck shop, our Year 6 students sell Zooper Doopers on a Friday to fundraise for their graduation at the end of the year. While students can purchase a Zooper Dooper for $1, they can also purchase a coupon at the Spark Buck Prize Shop to trade for a Zooper Dooper. Obviously, we are moving into the cooler months, and it is a bit too chilly for Zooper Doopers. Instead, the Year 6 students will be selling Hot Milos. The same process will occur, whereby students can purchase for $1 or use their Spark Buck Coupon.

This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss and celebrate with your child how they display our school values, how many spark bucks they have earned and what they plan to purchase from the prize shop.

We hope this provides an exciting opportunity for our students to enjoy a warm treat during the cooler months, while also reinforcing our school values and encouraging positive behaviour.
