Game Changers Students

The Game Changers program highlights from this term

At the beginning of term 2, we introduced yet another group of Game Changers students. Game Changers is a significant program at Sunbury College that aims to increase the school engagement of our year 8 and 9 students. Below is a snapshot of different activities students have had the opportunity to participate in:

🧑🏻‍🍳Cooking class

Students have done a considerable amount of cooking already this term which is fantastic!

Students have made honey joys, spiders, chocolate-chip cookies, tortillas, pancakes, choc-chip and blueberry muffins. They have participated really well as a team and are very helpful when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. We look forward to cooking some more things up in the future.

🌲Project Sunbury

Students have been given the opportunity to take control of the Sunbury College garden space. Students have been working to tidy up the space before we commence planting.

Students are really looking forward to growing some strawberries, garlic, carrots, lettuce and broccoli. This space will continue to be nurtured by this group. Hopefully, in the future, we will be able to use some of the produce for our cooking class!

⛹🏻Kismet Park Primary School

Students have been attending Kismet Park Primary School each week to participate in some sports with the grade 4 students. They have been really engaged with this aspect of the program. The primary students are so excited when the Sunbury College students come to see them - it is the highlight of their week! At the moment we are teaching them basketball, cricket and netball and will continue this in the coming weeks. Every student is always active and encouraging the kids to participate - which is lovely to see.

⛰️Excursions - Rock Climbing & MCG

As part of the program, students venture out of Sunbury College every second Monday. Students have been Rock Climbing in the CBD, which was a fantastic day! Students were both challenged and thrilled throughout the day! Our second excursion for the term was to the MCG and Sports Museum.

Students had the privilege of stepping out onto the MCG turf, as well as going backstage to where all AFL players have scratched the surface. They also had the opportunity to meet Richard Georlitz, a former ice speed skater. He represented Australia in the Winter Olympics in 1998 and came 9th overall. He shared some wisdom with students above setting expectations and goals, and if you put your mind to something you can 100% achieve it. We finished the day walking through the Sports Museum where students immersed themselves in the history of Australian sport. Students are looking forward to their final excursion to Bounce Inc in Heidelberg.
