Out and About

Year 12 Formal

Last Friday, the Year 12 cohort celebrated their Formal at the Adelaide Pavilion.

An event the students had spent weeks preparing for by purchasing dresses and suits and hiring limousines had finally arrived. All families gathered in the Adelaide Pavillion Garden for an hour for canapes, drinks and photos. This was the perfect time for mingling and socializing with families, celebrating all they have done for the Year 12s educational journey. After this, students gathered inside for a delicious dinner and quality time with their friends. The theme for the night was The Great Gatsby and the room was decorated to suit.

Prior to the event students were asked to select a teacher to deliver the Year 12 Formal Speech. Ms Falero entertained all and certainly put on a show, recreating funny moments from the start of the Endeavour journey, whilst sharing some wisdom as well. A range of awards were voted on and given to students, ranging from best dressed to most changed.

After all the formalities, the students had some time to gather on the dance floor and celebrate their journey so far and the months ahead.

This was such a valuable and fun time for all, dancing to favourite songs and bonding as a cohort.

Overall the event was very successful, with all enjoying their night thoroughly.

We want to give a massive thank you to Miss Gray and the teachers who helped make the night as smooth and special as it was.

This event would not be possible without them. We would also like to thank the students who offered their time and talents to help with the organisation and detail of the night. Your hard work certainly paid off.

We wish the Class of 2023 a wonderful year ahead and hope the formal was the perfect event to kick off this final year.

Planetarium Visit

Year 7 students are exploring the cycles and phenomena that acts upon our Earth and its positioning in the solar system. To extend their understanding of and engagement with the concepts, the students have had the opportunity to have an immersive experience at the Planetarium where they have seen the night sky come to life.

The Planetarium projects a simulation of the night sky onto a domed ceiling where a highly experienced astronomer then takes them on a tour of the constellations, stars and planets. This is a unique way to learn about the stars, solar system, and our place in the universe.

Food and Hospitality Excursion to Love, Stephy Dessert Café

Our Stage 2 class recently visited Love Stephy Dessert Café in the city, where we were treated to a spectacular array of delicious desserts.

The purpose of the visit was to gain an insight into the rise in popularity of dessert cafes and how social media has aided in their promotion and success.

We were served a selection of 3 desserts:

· La Vie En Rose

· Glazed Vanilla Mousse Heart

· Salted Caramel or Japanese Yuzu Tart

Not only were the students treated to these delicious desserts to help them understand the elements needed to create a visually successful dessert, but Stephy, the owner of the café and developer of the desserts, was able to spend time with the students.

Stephy discussed her business concepts from importance of location, to how she finds inspirations for her dessert creations and the role that social media plays in the success of her business. She also talked about her new ventures into the catering business and also introduced the class to some new flavours such as native green ants, vegan chocolate and smoked chocolate, which we were able to try.

We all left the café very full and in awe of the possibilities in dessert creations.

Next term the Year 12s will be creating their own dessert masterpieces.

Year 8 Geography Excursion

All Year 8 Geography classes embarked on fieldwork excursions along the Torrens River in Week 9.

Mr Kupke was a supporting staff member on one of the excursions, which turned out to be quite eventful. Here is his account of the morning: “Who knew that the Geography excursion could be so adventurous that it seemed like an episode of The Amazing Race...?

Ms Brenko was in full swing as we hit our first roadblock 5 minutes out of Mawson Lakes when the bus driver realised that his indicator wasn't working.

Ms Brenko kindly asked us to vacate the bus and transfer to the newly arrived Kanga Bus, transferring students over followed by baggage.

The Torrens was splendid at the Uni footbridge. After an Australasian Shoveler was spotted and identified, a stray bucket ended up in the Torrens, creating a new physical and mental challenge. Luckily the local Popeye's wake with 90s classic MMM Bop by Hansen playing overhead helped attract the bucket closer to the edge so that I could extract it with the long fishing pole.

Halfway through the second leg of the excursion the spitting turned drizzle, turned drizzle rain and hit the only spot in Adelaide with anything on the BOM radar.

There was nothing to do next except move on towards the St Peter's Billabong.

Shortly up the trail there was our second roadblock, equipped with a detour sign.

We now had a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros and cons.

We took off on the detour confidently without hesitation, as if we were trying our best not to be 'eliminated'.

The drizzle rain, turned rain, turned rain rain, continued as we walked the streets of St Peters. The detour continued, and continued, and continued, for a long time through the elements until we reached the Torrens again. Only now we realised that we had travelled well past the St Peters Billabong, and that it was inaccessible from where we were.

Never fear, the Torrens is here, and so samples were taken again, with 3 buckets dropped in and the recovered by Advay and Elijah climbing down an embankment.

Scaling the cliff back to the road at Stephen Terrace, we then crossed the main road, until we made it back to Tenth Avenue for a smooth bus ride home.

We made it back to the College safe and sound, ready for the next 'challenge' in this episode of the Amazing Race."

Year 11 Biology Excursion

Year 11 Biology students recently went on an excursion to Port Noarlunga. Students explored the ecosystems of the ocean and the sand dunes. They also experienced snorkeling to take a closer look at the flora and fauna that reside in the ocean, as well as near the reefs. The excursion further helps our students understand the impact that past human activity has had on the reef and the sand dunes, as well as the preservation strategies put into place to protect the beautiful environment.

Year 8 Health and Wellbeing Days

Jack Buckskin from Kuma Kaaru visited Endeavour College and spent a day working with our Year 8 students during the recent Health and Wellbeing days. The focus for these days were to grow awareness and understanding of the culture of our First Nations people. Students focused on the importance of Land and Country, developed their understanding of Aboriginal kinship and discussed the history of racism in our country.  Students also learnt and performed an Aboriginal dance which was a highlight for the day.

Year 8 students also experienced an adventure day. This day was spent climbing and overcoming the high-ropes obstacles of the West Beach Adventure Park and enjoying each other’s company on the games and water slides at The Beach House. The students engaged in all activities with outstanding eagerness and attitude. They challenged their comfort zones and enjoyed spending time with each other in a different environment.

Thank you to the teachers involved in facilitating the activities, and to the students and parents for their positive and supportive approach toward both days.

Year 10 Sports Coaching

During Term 1, Year 10 Health and Physical Education students have been investigating what it takes to make a great sports coach. They worked in small groups to design and practice a coaching session. During Weeks 9 and 10, they were able to deliver their session to primary school students across our Connected Schools. A wide variety of activities were taught across the 6 classes. It was a rewarding experience, with our Year 10 students coming away from the session with new skills, and the joy of giving the primary students a fun experience.

A big thanks to Good Shepherd Para Vista, Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School, and

St Paul Blair Athol for hosting two classes each. After many COVID interrupted years, we are glad to return and continue fostering this relationship with our Connected Schools.
