Subject Information Evening

As per the College calendar, the Year 10 2024 and Year 11 2024 Subject Information Night will be held on Tuesday 30 May. A letter to current Year 9 and 10 parents will be emailed home in the coming weeks with timelines around the 2023 subject selection process. 

 

Nathan Wallis – Neuroscience Education

Marist College Ashgrove is fortunate to have secured Nathan Wallis to present to our parent community on Wednesday 14 June at 5:30pm. Nathan is a neuroscience educator who will discuss with us everything about the Teen Brain. Keep an eye out for further details and booking information.

Marist Reading Night

Year 7 and 8 boys, along with a significant male in their lives, are invited to the Marist Reading Night being held on Thursday 18 May in the Senior Library. Please check emails for further information.

Year 12 Unit 3 Report Cards 

Year 12 Unit 3 Report Cards will be released to students and parents at the end of this week. As with all Year 12 summative results, the marks included in these reports are provisional until confirmed by the QCAA. Parents will receive an email when these reports are live in the Parent Portal. Following the publishing of these results, Year 12 Academic Interviews will be scheduled for commencement from Monday 22 May. More information about booking these interviews will be emailed to parents in the coming weeks.

Year 11 Exam block

As per the College calendar, the Year 11 exam block will be from Monday 15 - Friday 19 May. Please ensure these dates are kept free from specialist appointments or other outside-of-school events for Year 11 students. The exam block timetable will be emailed to students and parents this week.

 

Year 11 students only need to attend school if they have a scheduled exam - they must arrive in time for their exam and leave at its completion. However, if your son has not submitted an assessment or completed the tasks to a reasonable standard, he will be required to remain at school over this exam block to catch up on this work. If this applies to you, you will be contacted via email before the exam block.   Expectations during the exam block are as follows: 

  • Normal College rules apply when on campus
  • Boys must arrive to and from school in full school uniform (including blazers and bags)
  • Boys are to travel directly to and from school without congregating at shops, outside other schools etc
  • Boys must arrive at the allocated exam room arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled start time
  • Boys must bring all required equipment (calculator, pens, highlighters, charged laptops and headphones etc.) in a clear plastic sleeve or container. They must also bring their student ID card to every exam. 
  • Boys must adhere to the exam coordinator's instructions at all times

Year 11 subject changes 

Students wishing to change subjects at the end of Unit 1 will need to visit the Academic Care Team (via the Studies Office) anytime between now and Week 8. Please note these subject changes will not occur until the start of Unit 2.

Register your interest: Year 12 exam invigilators 

 

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) welcomes early registrations of interest from community members who would like to work as invigilators at Year 12 exams being held in schools throughout Queensland in October and November. These are paid positions. Invigilators must be over 18 years old, eligible to work in Australia and hold a current paid blue card, or exemption card, or a Queensland College of Teachers registration.

Senior Library Hours

Our senior library is open from 7:30am every morning until 5:00pm Monday-Thursday. It closes at 3:30pm on Fridays. 

 

Your son is encouraged to head to the library before and/or after school to complete his homework or study, free from the distractions at home.

Study Hall

Year 12 Night Study Sessions

The Night Study Sessions are weekly study times available to Year 12 students who wish to work in collaboration with their peers for assessment, complete revision, revisit classwork or work on external exam preparation. 

 

When: Every Wednesday during term time from 5:00pm-8:00pm

Where: Senior Library

Who: 2023 Year 12s only

Requirements:

  • Current ID card is to be presented on arrival
  • All students must sign in and out of the library
  • All standard library rules are to be followed (including no eating)
  • Normal student behaviour expectations apply; if these cannot be met, boys will be prohibited from returning to future sessions
  • Students are free to wear full College uniform or plain clothes
  • Students are free to arrive and leave as they see fit. Supervision is only provided in the library between 5:00pm-8:00pm.
  • Students are to be in the library only. This is not a time for sport or social gatherings. 

A librarian will be on duty from 5:00pm-8:00pm to assist if required; however, these are not tutoring sessions. 

Accessing end of term results 

At the end of last term, Year 5 -10 student results and task-specific feedback for all subjects were released to Student Café. These results and feedback can also be located on Parent Lounge. Please follow the steps below which highlight how to access your son’s results and feedback. 

 

1 - Open parent portal and click on “Parent Lounge”

 

2 - On the left-hand tab select “Curricular Activities Due” and select “view all activities” on the top right-hand side of page. 

This will take you to a screen that lists of your son/s assessment to complete or has been completed.

 

3 - Click on a subject to view feedback. 

4 - Once you click on the subject you will be able to find the following information:

 

a. Task sheet for assessment – this will outline what your son needs to do to complete the task successfully

b. Draft due dates and due dates

c. Criteria sheet

d. Feedback

e. Result
