'The Odd Couples' Studio Production

‘The Odd Couples’ was part of the VCE Theatre Studies course. As such, the students were responsible for everything. They planned, they researched, they designed, they rehearsed, they made, they shopped, they developed, they refined, they did it all. All on a shoestring. Thank you to all those sell-out crowds for coming along and supporting them by wandering through the ins and outs, nooks and crannies, stairwells and plazas, balconies and boudoirs.

I am proud of them. You should be too.

What it was about

In 90 minutes, the audience travelled to 14 different ‘exhibits’ around the school and met characters from a range of twentieth century plays: Waiting for Godot, Rosencranntz and Guildenstern are Dead, Ruby Moon, Under Milkwood, A Slight Ache.

Whilst each play encapsulated within The Odd Couples explored different tales, characters and representations of human life, they were all brought together by their questioning of the human condition, and what it means to share our lives with others. From dealing with loss, the threat of the unknown, death and aging, to the search of the meaning of our existence, Waiting explores life as a waiting period that is painful, comical and monotonous. The only escape is either routine or fantasy.
