Principal's Report

“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” Yves Saint Laurent

Our Year 12s were certainly styling in their new Year 12 jumpers. The student design team, led by Mia O, chose a design and garment that complements the fantastic uniform that students wear each day. The style of the jumper as seen in the images is certainly eternal. They were a very proud group of Year 12s.

Anzac Day

Our return to Term 2 started with a whole school assembly to commemorate ANZAC Day.  ANZAC Day ceremonies around the world commemorate those who those who fought in conflicts and war so that we may have our freedoms. It was described by Sir William Deane, Governor-General of Australia on Anzac Day 1999:

"Anzac is not merely about loss. It is about courage, and endurance, and duty, and love of country, and mateship, and good humour and the survival of a sense of self-worth and decency in the face of dreadful odds."

This ANZAC spirit is part of our Australian national identity and needs to be preserved. It is the courage of ANZACs and the legacy of their bravery that we must maintain in order to triumph over fear and intolerance that is invading our world today.

We are part of a strong community in Beaumaris steeped in tradition by honouring the past. There is a ripple effect from the sacrifices of our ANZACs. Now more than ever, we must find our way back to the true meaning of those ANZAC sacrifices that contributed to our way of life now. We have a social responsibility that entails service, leadership and courage. These are words that need to be actioned not just spoken.

Each young person can consider helping others through service and thinking of others.  This may be to your family, school, club, community and in the case of our ANZACS— service to country.

Each young person can show leadership in the choices they make each day, through kindness and understanding for others.

Each young person can show the courage needed to make a difference in this every changing and challenging world that will see us preserve what the ANZACS fought so hard for.

Year 8 Camp

Our students had a wonderful time at the Summit Camp. The weather and the atmosphere was fantastic. The GOAL mentors were there to cheer them in each and every challenge they faced.

I spent the Thursday with them and watched as each GOAL group tackled the monster course together.  This physical challenge was a truly bonding experience for them.

State Swimming & Regional and State Diving

Outstanding results for our talented and committed competitors. We are so proud of their representation of the college across regional and state division.

The Odd Couples Production

At the end of last term, the last day of term to be exact, our Theatre Studies students led by their teacher, Sam Mackie, produced and performed an excellent multimedia production that I had the pleasure to attend. Students took the audience on a journey through the college spaces that were transformed with light and props to represent settings for their vignettes. I was dazzled by the talent and the pure creativity that came through each “odd couple”. My highlight was Waiting for Godot under my favourite tree.  Well done to all involved.

PBL and Innovate Expo

Wednesday 14 June (6 - 8pm)

At Beaumaris Secondary College, our PBL and Innovate Expo is an opportunity for students to celebrate and showcase their learning with the school community. In doing so, students share how they have used authentic inquiry in project-based learning.

We expect all students to attend on the evening to showcase their project with their team. We also invite all parents and even grandparents to come along.  Save the date.

Take a look at the video from our 2019 Expo below.

Engaging Women Presentation

Our girls embraced the opportunity this week to hear from Martine Harte, the founder of advocacy platform Engaging Women. Martine shared her inspiring journey in establishing Engaging Women to elevate the voices of women and advance awareness surrounding barriers to equality. We were also privileged to be joined by the Federal member for Goldstein, Zoe Daniel who received a number of insightful questions from our students.  We look forward to hosting more events that shine the spotlight on the wonderful work happening within the community.
