Team Vic Girls Cricket Trials
A big congratulations to Jasmine from SED who was selected as an emergency for the Victorian Girls Cricket Team. The team will be heading to Darwin later in the year. This is a really big achievement to be recognised out of 101 girls who trialled and only 13 were selected. Well done Jasmine!
A ‘wheely’ great day
Wow! What an amazing turnout we had for National Ride2School Day last Friday. It was a lovely morning to be outdoors and active. Thank you for supporting active travel and helping to encourage healthy habits for our future. We had about 400 students participate in this wonderful event, which is about 100 more than last year, great effort everyone!
Senior Gala Day #2
Unfortunately, due to the weather on Monday, the tough decision from District was made to cancel Senior Gala Day #2. Mr Lewis and the Senior team have been busy trying to reschedule some play-offs for the CHPS teams that have scored the highest points and ranked in the top 2 from Senior Gala Day #1. We are hopeful these play-offs will go ahead tomorrow for the various sports, and we wish all the teams the best of luck as this will determine who progresses on to Division.

CHPS 2022 RESOURCE REPORT
At the end of 2022 the Year 6 School Leaders worked with Cindy McFarlane from the Resource Smart Schools network and Mr Crook to do an energy audit of different rooms in the school. The 2023 leaders Mia, Miranda, Christopher and Cooper, and the 2022 leaders Dougal, Jack, Chloe and Darby found that at CHPS we do really well when it comes to our energy use.
We use energy-efficient fluorescent lights and timers to turn off charging trolleys for the laptops. There are reminders above the light switches to turn off the lights, you are less likely to get eaten by a T-Rex! Most of our classrooms have the heating and cooling set to the most efficient temperatures and our ceiling fans have summer and winter settings to do the best job of circulating the air.
There is more we think we could do and we wrote down our suggestions and observations for Mr Crook to think about.

Sustainability Victoria
As a part of RSS accreditation the school's resource data is entered and compiled each year. At the end of 2022 we are happy to share this information with our school community.
You can see that here at Croydon Hills we are below the State benchmarks for a Primary School and reduced almost all of our resource usage.
What this means is that since we started in 2015 we have reduced our carbon emissions by 425 tonnes, equal to 283 cars; saved enough electricity to power 70 houses; reduced our water use by 2 Olympic swimming pools and cut our gas use by about 63%.
This translates to thousands of dollars in savings that the school can direct to the education, support and growth of our students.
Resource Type | StateBenchmark | 2015 usage per student | 2022 Total usage | Usage per student. | Below benchmark |
Biodiversity | >75 | 40 | 60 | - |

Electricity | 250kWh | 397 kWh | 181,356 kWh | 240 kWh | Yes |
Gas | - | 633 MJ | 178,503 MJ | 236 MJ |

Water | 4 kL | 3.12 kL | 1519 kL | 2 kL | Yes |

Well done to staff and students.
