Assistant Principal's Report

Year 3 - Year 6 News

We are nearly there! The end of term 2, halfway through the school year, mid-semester and student reports are on there way!

Students in Years 3-6 are staying focused and teachers are continuing to facilitate the learning, monitoring individual student needs and adjusting the learning accordingly.  This ensures high levels of learning growth and success for all students.

In week 9, the students will be showcasing their reading growth and achievements in our 'Open Afternoon', held on the 19th of June from 3 pm.  It will be an awesome opportunity to learn more about the 'Reader's Workshop Model' and listen to your child boast about their reading.   Also, new writing displays will be ready for viewing and whilst they are not yet completed, I am getting excited watching these take form.  Each term, the writing displays are viewed and one display of writing is voted as the favourite.  This is based on, creativity and evidence of the 'Writer's Workshop Model' being followed.  I am hoping this term's winner is from Year 3, 4, 5 or 6!

Students are also being assessed on maths learning that has been completed and in maths learning units to be completed, in term 3.  This information (what the students do know and need to know) will be used to inform the teachers planning, on planning day in week 10.  On teachers planning day, students in that year level engage in a day of specialist classes.  The majority of students look forward to this day, however, a small percentage find the change challenging.   If your child finds this a difficult day, please speak to your child's classroom teacher to ensure you have all the details to support a successful day.

School holidays for some children is a time to slow down, sleep in and have friends over to play.  For others, it can be a busy time for outings.  School holidays can also be a time of stress and uncertainty as children are unsure of what to do or who will care for them.  Locally, there are some wonderful school holiday programs, however,  if you are looking for free and fun things to do, you may like to check out the website, "50 free school holiday activities for kids - Easy ways to keep childhood boredom at bay" at https://www.finder.com.au/free-school-holiday-activities

Have a great fortnight everyone.

Kind Regards
