Principal's Message
Message from Mr Graham Jones
Well, we are almost there. One and a half weeks until the Christmas holidays begin. It has been another huge year at BCS and its not over yet.
The last two weeks have been a hectic time with students heavily involved in curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Thursday and Friday last week were the final two days of Year 7 Transition for the year. The 19 students had a fantastic time learning Japanese, making electronic name tags, playing PE, doing Mathematics and so much more. I am very much looking forward to seeing them next year in Year 7, happily learning in the secondary school. I would like to thank the parents that could make our parent information session. It is always great to have a chat about school and expectations for the following year.
On the day of the previous newsletter's publication we also had our newest BCS students concluding their Kindy Start transition to Boorowa Central School. It was great to see their happy and proud faces on stage at our assembly, receiving their certificates. Again, I cannot wait to sneak down to the Kindy room and read a few stories with the children.
The open boys cricket team continued their success with another comprehensive win, this time over Molong Central School. They now move onto the Central Schools final series in Dubbo next week, playing Gulargambone Central School first up. Further details about their performance against Molong are included in this newsletter.
All our little swimmers involved in the intensive swim school have been improving each and everyday. Jaimee has been doing a great job with these students, giving them the life skill of swimming and staying afloat.
It was a great turn out at the end of year family BBQ last week with over 70 people attending to enjoy a sausage sandwich, some cricket and a good chat. These events are always the highlight of my year and I look forward to seeing even more families at our welcome BBQ in Term 1, 2020.
If you are a Facebook user and follow the official school page you would have noticed the posts regarding our 2020 student leadership body. Each of our fantastic student leaders are being introduced to the wider community so that we all understand what makes these young people who they are. Byron, our Secondary Captain, received his blazer and badge earlier this week at assembly as he is unable to attend Presentation Night.
Looking ahead we have both the Secondary girls trip and boys trip occurring. The girls are today, participating in a variety of team building activities in Canberra as we had to cancel the original trip due to the bush fires on the South Coast. They will also spend a day in the Boorowa Community tomorrow (Friday) building on the activities from today. The boys are heading to the Snowy Mountains in Week 10 with the male staff to do a 15 km mountain hike in the snowy ranges. It will be a tough walk, putting may students well outside their comfort zones. This will help them build resilience and support networks to help them deal with the adversities of life. I am looking forward to experiencing the challenge with them.
The rewards excursions for the Infants and Primary students are also coming up. Some students are going to the movies and others to the pool. Congratulations to all the students attending these excursions, you have worked hard for this reward.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all our families and community members to our EXPO - a display of our Secondary student projects throughout the year on Monday afternoon from 2:20 pm-3:20pm. Please come along and support the students showcasing their many talents.
I look forward to seeing you all again at our annual Presentation night next Thursday.
