What an amazing few days our Energy Breakthrough team had in Maryborough last week! The way our students represented Buninyong Primary school over the three day event was exceptional and we are very proud of them all.

It was a rough start to the event with the weather really dialling it up on Thursday and bringing some hot blustery and dusty conditions. This made it a challenge for the students to do their presentations with props and posters blowing around everywhere, but they pushed on and did a great job talking about the trikes, their teamwork, training, nutrition, sponsors, race rules and more.

After the very ordinary conditions on Thursday, we woke up early on Friday to perfect conditions for the race. After a practise session in the morning, the race got underway at 12pm and after a few nervous laps, the students settled in to the 8 hour session on the track.

Picking up again on Saturday morning at 6 am,  the kids were straight back into race mode for the remaining 6 hours.  At 12 pm on Saturday, after more than 280 laps per team, a few crashes, a flat tyre, broken lights, a lost speedometer and lots of bumps, both teams completed what was an amazing 14 hours of racing.

There was a great sense of pride amongst the students as they carried the trikes off the track and realised what they had achieved together as a team. They started working towards this event in term 2 this year and have put in a massive amount of work to get to this point.

Congratulations to both teams for their efforts and the results they achieved. We are sure that everyone who went and supported the kids will agree that this will hopefully be the first of many successful trips to Energy Breakthrough in the future.

The EBT team would like to thank all the parents who supported them throughout the event by volunteering their time to help with fundraising, teaching students about the trikes, support with training, providing food at the event, setting up the campsite and all the other help along the way. They would also like to thank the school community for their support with the fundraising events which made the whole thing possible.
