Planning for 2020

Over the past few months we have been putting plans in place for next year and as you’ll see in the outline below, there won’t be a lot of change from 2019.

Class Structure

In 2020 we will again be running with straight year level classes at our Buninyong campus and 3 multi-age classes at Scotsburn. Overall, classes will have an average of approximately 22/23 students which is excellent…we know that we are better able to cater for individual learning needs if class sizes are kept around that level.

We have very little staff movement, in or out of the school, which is nice.  A few  teachers are changing roles within the school as we strive to build strong teams at every year level and give staff the opportunity to experience a variety of roles over time.

All of our 2020 teams have a full day of planning together over the next couple of weeks. This end of year planning will enable classroom teachers to hit the ground running in January next year.

If you have any questions regarding arrangements for 2020, please call and arrange a time to catch up.

DET (Department of Educations and Training) Scholarships

The Department of Education and Training administers a number of scholarships each year for students who are studying in Victoria. Almost $2,000,000 is available in the General Scholarships Program this year.

Scholarships information

The student scholarships are designed to reduce disadvantage by providing financial support for education.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled in Victorian schools and be Australian citizens or permanent residents. Some of the scholarships are available to Victorian government school students while others are available to students across all sectors.

Financial support for student transport (conveyance allowance)

Families in rural and regional Victoria can get help with the cost of transporting their children to their nearest school or campus. This is known as the conveyance allowance.

The conveyance allowance is available to students travelling by:

  • public transport
  • private car
  • private bus
  • or to students whose nearest school is not serviced by a free school bus.

The conveyance allowance is a contribution towards transport costs and is not intended to cover the full cost of transporting children to and from school.

Who can apply?

The conveyance allowance is available to families who meet the following criteria.  Students must:

  • attend their nearest government or non-government school/campus appropriate to their year level at which admission is permissible
  • be enrolled at a school/campus outside Melbourne’s metropolitan conveyance boundary
  • live 4.8km or more by the shortest practicable route from that school/campus attended
  • be of school age at the time of application, and reside in Victoria.

Applying for the allowance

Families can complete an application form and submit it to their school, or the school can complete the form on their behalf.

Note: Form 3 Application for public transport travel must include evidence of ticket purchase.

Schools then lodge the application via the Student Conveyance Allowance System.

Payment amounts

Depending on how a student travels to school, the payment amount an eligible student may be granted is based on:

  • the least expensive public transport fares
  • a distance based allowance when travel is by private car and/or private bus.
