CANBERRA TOUR – GRADE 6
During the week of Monday 27 May, Grade 6 students undertook an educational tour of the national capital. While on this tour they experienced a variety of educational programs focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy which supports the ‘Discovering Democracy’ unit being studied in the classroom this term. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit their National Capital as part of their civics and citizenship education. To assist parents in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program toward the travel expenses incurred. This contribution was used to offset the cost of the camp. We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this program. Activities undertaken as part of the educational tour included visits to;
• Geoscience centre
• Embassy Drive
• Australian War Memorial
• Portrait Gallery
• Old Parliament House
• Questacon
• Australian Electoral Commission
• AIS
• Parliament House (Tour & Parliamentary Education Program)
• High Court of Australia
• National Museum
We hope that the excursion was a rewarding experience for all students.
