Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

It has been an exciting couple of weeks for school in regards to building upgrades and improvements.

SAMBELL LODGE DEVELOPMENT

This week we received notification from the Hon. James Merlino, Deputy Premier that Clifton Hill Primary School has been allocated $1,275,700 in capital works funding in the 2019-20 State Budget.  This is to enable us to plan for our project – with the appointment of a builder expected by August 2020 and the first “sod” being turned by September 2020.  This project allows us to provide improved teaching and learning spaces for the children at our school.  Thank you to Richard Wynne MP, our local member, for his support in ensuring this project for over four years.

FUND RAISING PROJECTS

Each year our Fair Committee and community work together to fundraise for school improvement projects.  Over the years money from the Fair has been directed towards solar panels, MPR cooling system, the building of the Science Centre and the list goes on...

2017 -  PREP COURTYARD UPGRADE

In 2017, funds raised from the Fair were directed to upgrade the Prep Courtyard.  This planning has taken some time however I am pleased to advise the project is about to go to tender and we expect to have this project completed by the end of 2019.  Features of the new design include ramp accessibility, a small amphitheater for outdoor learning and a synthetic turf area for outdoor play.  Thank you to MAArchitects for their support in making this project possible.  In addition to the inviting play space, we will also enjoy a more functional area for entry and exit into the main building.

Below is the final design for the prep courtyard.

2018 - MPR ENHANCEMENT

We are well on the way to expending the 2018 Fair funds on the multi-purpose room.  Next week an electric dividing screen will be installed in the MPR to enable it to be used by multiple classes during the teaching day.  This will prove particularly useful during the winter months for our PE classes.

We also have a 150inch projection screen installed in the MPR at the end of the term.  We will all finally be able to see student presentations during assemblies and have more effective information sessions in this facility.

Planning is also underway for a review of the MPR flooring and an additional exit/entry point into the room.  We will keep you informed regarding these developments.

Please send through any ideas for school improvement to school_council@cliftonhillps.vic.edu.au.  These suggestions will help the School Council allocate fundraised money.

ALL ABILITIES PLAYSPACE

We are also recipients of a $200,000 grant for the building of an All Abilities Playspace.  A working group has been formed and the planned timeline is to have this work completed by June 2020.

Exciting times ahead for CHPS!!
