Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

This week is Book Week and we are all excited for Friday's Parade and special activities!  Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to support our book fair.  For families still wishing to buy books, the Book Fair is open again this afternoon, in the BER/Library building, between 3.30 - 4.30 pm.   Tomorrow,  families are invited to join us after 9am for the Book Week Parade.  Please note that, due to the parade and activities, there will be no morning assembly or band lessons tomorrow.

As previously advised, next Friday the 19th August we will be having a pupil free day, to enable staff to undertake a whole of schoolprofessional learning and planning day. OSHC will be running for families who require this support, but bookings are essential.  Please submit a booking form via the OSHC page or contact Kath on 0418399861.

On Sunday, a number of students participated in the Inter-school X-country mini-series event at Falls Creek.  Congratulations to all students on their participation and achievement. Overall, the school placed 2nd in the competition with individual placings as follows: Hamish 1st, Tully 3rd, Tom 5th (Div 4 Classic), Shelby 2nd (U12 1km), Ollie 2nd and Mitchell 5th (U10 750m).  In addition Hamish, Tom and Tully also took out first place in the Division 4 Cross Country relay and team event.  A follow up event, will be held in September and we wish students all the very best!

The Australian Dental Health visit has been rescheduled for the first week of term 4. Families who returned their forms earlier in the year, do not need to do anything.  If you did not complete a form and would like your child to participate, please drop into the office to collect a form or give us a call.  If for any reason you wish to withdraw consent, please contact the office asap.

Today, our 5/6 students and their teachers headed up the hill for their first ski day.  Many thanks to Melanie for her organisation of this program and to all our volunteers and participating staff for their support.  Our ski program will continue over the next two weeks, subject to weather.

Students in Years 3 & 4 will also have an opportunity to participate in a day of X-Country skiing on Tuesday 13th September.  Additional information about this event will be sent home in the next week.

Planning for 2023 transition is underway for students in Year 6.  On Monday 15th August, an information session for Year 6 students and their families will be held at the Mount Beauty Secondary College,  from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.   While many of our Year 6 students have already participated in small group visits to the Secondary College, all students in Year 5/6 will have the chance to visit the secondary college as a class group on Monday 22nd or 29th August.

Planning for the Kinder to Prep transition days is also underway and more information will be circulated to families in the next few weeks.  If there are any families wishing to have a tour of the school, please contact the office to arrange a suitable time.

Thank you to all families for your ongoing support through the latest rounds of illness.  Please continue to notify the school if your child tests positive for COVID or is a close contact.  Please also ensure your child understands the importance of wearing a mask indoors, to help keep everyone safe.  RAT kits are still available for collection from the office.
