Student Engagement

Our leadership team has implemented a weekly classroom walk each Tuesday morning from 9am. In teams of three staff, we visit various areas of the school to observe the teaching and learning and seek out examples of both. During these observations I have been extremely pleased to see students on task, engaged in their learning and following the school values. The calm learning environment is a credit to the students and staff. Our next goal will be to ensure students are being challenged and extended in their thinking.

PPPS has Talent

Yesterday was the first lunchtime audition sessions for PPPS has talent. I was amazed at both the number of students registering for an audition and the large crowd of over 150 students who spent their break time in the audience. Congratulations to the students involved and thank you to Mr Stubberfield for the time he has spent on organising such a large event that will now continue throughout the term. This is another example of the extra-curricular activities available to our students designed to develop confidence and resilience, whilst prioritising fun!

Student Absences

Data constantly comes across the desk of a principal in a primary school. One data set of great interest to me this term, has been the student absences:

WEEK

TOTAL ABSENCES ACROSS THE WEEK

1

395

2

547

3

584

Thank you to parents and guardians who are ensuring that students are not attending school when they are unwell. These high absence numbers indicate that many students have either flu symptoms or in some cases positive covid results. We continue to promote outdoor learning, we ensure purifiers are on and teachers have open doors and windows to increase circulation.

Tender Process

I am excited to share the news that the tender process is now underway for our $5.4M building project. We still harbour hopes of a Term 4 start to the works. The first step is relocation of the computer lab and then the construction of the Library/Art/Science facility. This project will add a new dimension to what is already an outstanding educational facility at Plenty Parklands.

End of term assembly

Whilst the high absence numbers and continued presence of covid in our school community has meant a delay in the return of weekly assemblies, we are keen to come together as a school this term for an outdoor assembly to celebrate the end of Term 3. Weather permitting, we aim to hold an outdoor assembly in the courtyard on Thursday 15 September at 2:45pm. We believe this is the safest way to bring everyone together and look forward to sharing specialist awards, witnessing a performance from the band and hearing from the school choir. All parents are welcome to attend.
