Around the school

Year 3 have been designing their own gnomon sundials to measure the time during science. Their unit of study is called "day and night" and they are studying  the Earth’s relationship with the Sun and how the Sun, Earth and Moon interact. They will learn that the rotation of the Earth on its axis causes regular changes, including night and day and the pattern of the seasons.

As the Earth spins, the position of the sun in the sky moves, it causes

shadows that we can follow.

In the middle of the day, the sun is high in the sky and the shadows cast

are short; as the sun moves lower, by the afternoon, the shadows become

longer. This pattern is repeated every day.

Othello in Advanced English

Term 3 in Advanced English means students must grapple with jealousy, deception, humanism and tragedy while exploring the Shakespearean play 'Othello'. Last week in an eclectically interpreted array of quasi-Venetian costumes, General Othello murdered his wife Desdemona after being cruelly manipulated by Iago.
