Diversity and Inclusion

Welcome, join in, be yourself.

"During this time of coronavirus (COVID-19) so much is outside of our control. Not just the virus itself, but all the other aspects of life that might be impacted, from work and finances to socialising and travel. At this time it’s important to give yourself credit as you cope with this tough time and recognise that dealing with this challenge can make you more resilient" Sam Harris (Yarrabah School's Mental Health Practitioner)

Sam Harris gave a presentation to staff about Self Care and Vicarious Trauma.  One of the great take aways from her presentation was a video she shared with us about Dadirri (Deep Listening).  We could all use some inner quietness and this is also a wonderful way to connect and learn about cultural practices.

Deep listening (dadirri)

Aboriginal people practice deep listening, an almost spiritual skill, based on respect. Sometimes called 'dadirri', deep listening is inner, quiet, still awareness, waiting – and available to everyone.

Yarrabah families, staff and community!  We would love it if you could share a bit about your culture and background.  This could be a recipe, a story about where you have come from, a snapshot or artwork of your favourite celebration or custom or anything else that will help us to learn about and embrace everyone and their differences in our community.

We are all different, but we all want and need the same things.  Love, friendship and acceptance.
