Basketball News

I hope everyone is doing well in lockdown and practising their basketball skills. Obviously as we still await news of restrictions easing in regional Victoria, this has impacted the HBA finals series and yesterday they announced that the current season finals will not go ahead for the following reasons:

1) the combination of interruptions in the season due to lockdown, combined with byes scheduled in the fixture, means that lots of teams have played uneven amounts of games, and a finals series is not appropriate in this context.

2) the priority is to focus our time and energy over the next few weeks preparing for next season, and getting as much basketball played by as many people as possible. We chose not to divert our limited time over the next few weeks towards the rescheduling of finals.

As I start putting together our teams for the new Spring/Summer season, scheduled to commence Week 2 of Term Four, we look like having a larger amount of junior teams. This is fantastic but of course it means we will need more volunteers to help run the basketball program - especially coaches (but also team managers.) If you are a senior years student/parent/staff member or know someone suitable in the local community who is passionate about their basketball even if they don’t have much coaching experience but are willing to learn and be involved please get in contact with myself at lalexander@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au ASAP. Team entries are due to the HBA by next Friday 17th September.
