Ambulance Victoria's Shocktober Campaign

Ambulance Victoria has launched a month-long campaign, Shocktober, encouraging people to learn CPR and become a #GoodSAM Responder.

Every day around 18 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only 1 in 10 surviving. Shocktober is aimed at improving that rate.

GoodSAM is a free app that alerts registered responders when someone nearby is in cardiac arrest.

Ambulance Victoria chief executive Professor Tony Walker said bystander intervention has the greatest impact on improving survival rates.

"We are also encouraging as many Victorians as possible who are confident and willing to perform CPR to sign up to become a GoodSAM.

GoodSAM is an app that alerts registered responders when someone nearby is in cardiac arrest.

We also know that since the launch of the GoodSAM app in 2018, 50 lives have been saved because of the actions of GoodSAM Responders.
