Inquiry

‘Climate and the types of material available determine the structures that can be built'

To conclude our Unit of Inquiry, the Preps were challenged to see if they could make a structure out of newspaper that was at least 30cm tall and could hold up the weight of a book.

Students carefully considered how they could manipulate the newspaper to make their structures strong. We saw structures using rolled up newspaper to increase the newspaper’s strength. Students also carefully connected multiple pieces of rolled paper together to make triangles in the form of a truss.

We were so impressed with how the Preppies used their knowledge and problem-solving skills to modify their design as they went. We saw many successful structures which could hold up very impressive weights!

Morning Exercises

Despite learning from home for most of Term 3, the Prep teachers were still eager to keep the students’ spirits high and keep them connected with each other and the teachers.

We planned a fun morning of exercises and dance which the whole Prep cohort got to take part in together. It was a lot of fun and a great way to stay connected and get moving after all the time we have been spending online.

Magic Show

The Preppies were treated to a fun week of special activities in the lead up to the end of Term 3.

We had the one and only Josh Staley treat us to some live, interactive magic! Josh was a past BNPS School Captain and has gained recognition performing as a magician both in Australia and internationally. Josh also taught the Preps a few tricks for them to practice over the holidays.

We look forward to being amazed, once we are back on-site, by the Preps own magic tricks!

Footy Clinic

In the last week of Term, the Preps were lucky to take part in an online footy clinic. They thoroughly enjoyed moving to music to get their bodies warmed up and active. The Preppies also used footballs, socks or even soft toys and a washing basket, to practice their hand balls and football skills.

It was a lot of fun and a great activity to take part in in the lead up to the AFL Grand Final.

SMART Spelling

We have continued with our SMART Spelling program during remote learning, and have noticed student sound/letter knowledge developing brilliantly despite learning online.

The Preppies have been using concrete materials to practice spelling their 'Words of the Week'. This hands-on activity sees students get creative using different materials of their choice, while also developing their fine motor skills and spelling knowledge in a fun and engaging manner.
