Graphic design

Did you know that Graphic Art is a subject that students can do in High School?

Mrs Dodd's Year 9 class have been creating coffee cup designs. How pretty is this one?!

Farm visit

The Dunsborough Pre Primary and Kindy classes spent the day at the Burt's farm. We used an old fashioned milk separator, made butter, squeezed lemons for lemonade, fed the chickens, looked for tadpoles, surveyed the vegetable garden, observed the sheep and farm buildings and played old fashioned games including a real egg egg and spoon race.

Thank you to George and Win, the benefactors of our school land for allowing us to enjoy this beautiful, peaceful place.

Busselton Water

A few weeks ago the Busselton Year 2s and 3s headed off to Busselton Water. This coincided beautifully with National Water Week which celebrates the vital and cultural role that water plays in our lives and recognises Australian First Nations people’s knowledge of protecting and sustaining our water. The children were fascinated with all the information that was shared! Climbing to the very top of the water tower was one of our highlights!!

Experimenting

The Dunsborough Year 3/4 class had a day of Design and Technology. We investigated which materials absorb, conduct, retain and concentrate the sun’s heat and light best. With this knowledge we designed and built solar ovens to cook smores.

Compassion Day

The Primary school afternoon market was a hit with all stalls selling out! It was an afternoon that brought the whole school community together (primary, high school, staff and parents) to make money for a cause that is dear to many hearts - Compassion.

There were stalls with food , drinks, show bags, trash to treasures and games. With music being played and Miss H as MC there was also plenty of dancing. A great afternoon that is sure to be remembered fondly all dedicated to raising money for Compassion!

And the follow up to that story is that we were able to raise $1,008.00 for the work of Compassion Australia at the Compassion day stalls. Definitely a cause for dancing and celebrating!! (see the title picture at the top of the page!)

Dunsborough clubs

Each Thursday afternoon students participate in five engaging clubs around the campus over five weeks. The clubs are "Epic Epicureans", "What's Out There?", "The Challenge is On!", "Let's go fly a kite" and "Bang that Drum". Students attend each club in whichever order they choose, and a ‘passport’ is stamped to indicate their attendance after each one.

The clubs are an opportunity for all students to engage in topics of interest and get to know students across all years.

Music in the College

The Year 6 band are ready for presentation night soon and have had so much fun rehearsing during their Thursday lunchtime this year. Well done, musicians!

Reading time

It was the Pre Primary student's turn to read to the Year 3 and 4s at Dusnborough! They are so proud of their reading and share the same goal of becoming more fluent.

Design and Technology

Some creative designs are coming out of Mr Taylor's Design and Technology classes! The year 8 students have been designing and building mobile phone stands, and Year 9 Metalwork student, Katie Jarman produced this beautiful bird sculpture.

Dunsborough Primary COGGs

Last week's COGGs assembly (Celebration Of God's Goodness) led by Year 1 and 2 was focused on HOPE.

Students bought in food for the Christmas Hamper Appeal arranged by the Saint Georges Community Care as a way of spreading hope to those less fortunate. As a community we encouraged each other to remain hopeful and joined in for a whole school dance!

Snakes alive!

Mrs Wright and Mrs Langenhoven's Year 7 Cadet Class had a visit from Discover Deadly. They were taught about the reptiles local to our area, how to protect them, what to do if an injured reptile is found and what to do if you were bitten by a snake. The highlight of the afternoon was meeting two blue tongue lizards, a South West Carpet Python and a Stimpson Python.

Busy Bee

A massive shout out to all our helpers last weekend. You transformed our Dunsborough bush area ready for our end of year celebrations.

Thank you!

Badminton with style

The Year 9 PE class had their final PE lesson last week. To conclude a 3-week badminton tournament they played off in a series of finals matches, concluding with the Grand Final where everyone watched and cheered on both teams. The vibe was competitive but fun; the music was pumping, and some teams even dressed up for the occasion.
