STUDENT ACTIVITIES

YEAR 7 ACTIVITIES

Year 7's are learning about Ecologies and Food Webs. What better way to appreciate Producers, Consumers and Decomposers than by growing plants in our garden, learning all about bees, from Jenna the Beekeeper and learning about Fungi, from Sam, the mushroom farmer! We were facinated by the wonderful world of bees, and then were treated with delicious fresh honeycomb, straight from the hive!

We were greeted at our classroom door by a little native marsupial rodent, who lives in our school garden, which is teeming with life!

YEAR 9 COMMUNITY PROJECT

In 2021, our Year 9 cohort took on the challenge of completing the Community Project for their MYP journey. This project consisted of a self-driven initiative that looked to help a community in need. This project spanned from end of Term 2 through to the start of Term 4. To say our Year 9 students were challenged by the project would be an understatement. Similar to last year, this cohort had to deal with lockdowns and restrictions as a result of Victoria’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Students’ initial plans were laid bare because of these conditions and many had to adjust their project throughout. From wildlife projects, mental health research to cleaning up the rubbish in our community, the Year 9s gave a fantastic effort to complete their community projects across a wide range of topics. Because the task is self-driven, the students had to demonstrate a number of soft skills that will prepare them for life outside school, such as collaboration, communication, time-management, conflict resolution and even give and receive feedback. The culmination of the project was each group’s presentation to the Panel. Covering their projects in 10-15 minutes, the students impressed the panel with their detail and thoughtful reflections. Our students should be proud of the way they conducted themselves and demonstrated resilience and innovation to finish their projects. Well done to all participants!
