YEAR 7 & 8 PROJECTS

STEINER  - ART TILES

Our Steiner Art students are making ceramic tiles that are inspired by the Aboriginal people and indigenous animals of Australia. Their relief sculptures are inspired by paintings from Aboriginal Artist like Melanie Hava and Chern’ee Sutton. In conjunction to making the tiles they have written reports and drawn pictures of endangered animals of Australia. Students are also making posters about the tiles and artists who inspired their works. The tiles will be hung on the wall above a newly planted garden space outside the administrative office after they are colourfully glazed. Students are also able to make a second tile to take home.

BOONWURRUNG SEASONS

On Boonwurrung Country we have six seasons which connect us to the natural world around us, earth, water and sky. N’Arweet Carolyn Briggs, a  a Yaluk-ut Weelam and Boon Wurrung elder, introduced the seasons in her book “The Journey Cycles of the Boonwurrung”. Milla (7H) created a stunning calendar, including all she learnt about the Boonwurrung.

When the coast tea-tree is covered in snow white blossoms, we enter the season of “Bullarto nye-wiiynth”- Summer – “Plenty of Sun”. These beautiful trees are just starting to flower now.

Exploring the school grounds on their first day back, Aaron, Ruby and Tianne from 8D discovered many more plants signaling “Bullarto nye-wiiynth”. I remember many of you helping plant the seedlings during our working bee in between lock downs. Look how they have grown! How lucky we are to work, learn and play in such an amazing environment.
