YEAR 10 DEBATING

On Saturday 25 September Aberfoyle Park High School took part in the Debating State Grand Final in the House of Assembly at Parliament House.

Our Year 10 Green Debating Team, consisting of Libby, Mariko, Yuvraj and Lachlan competed against St Dominic’s Priory College, with the topic “That we should allow advertising for prescription medication in Australia?” a topic not widely discussed here in Australia, maybe we were the first? In fact I’m fairly sure these four students might just consider politics or law in the future.

The team was runner up for the State Championship and it was an honour to take out the silver medal and for Aberfoyle Park High School to be our home.

A very big thank you to teacher Kate Lonergan and her Year 10 Blue Team consisting of some amazing talented students namely Cadence, Konon, Reuben, Dan, Georgia & Harmony. Kate’s team made it into the debating final rounds in fourth place out of the final eight in the State along with the Year 10 Green Team not far behind.

Over the final rounds we ended up competing against each other in the Semi Final which meant Year 10 Green and Year 10 Blue faced off in an exciting and topical Semi Final event at Nazareth Catholic College. The outcome? Aberfoyle Park High School made it to the Grand Final!
