DIPLOMA SUBJECTS RECEIVE UNIVERSITY CREDIT - INTERNATIONAL

BACCALAUREATE

Ryan Brown, Assistant Principal Innovation in Curriculum and Pedagogy

For the first time in South Australia, universities are recognising the rigour of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) by awarding academic credit to students who undertake one or more subjects in their senior years. Recently, The University of Adelaide was the first institution to extend this recognition, allowing students who successfully complete International Baccalaureate (IB) subjects such as psychology, chemistry or physics first year credit in relevant bachelor degrees.

For students, this means that successful completion of an IB subject such as IB Chemistry, will result in a reduced workload towards achieving a science degree. This recognition extends to students undertaking the entire diploma course, as well as those choosing to take on a single IB subject as a recognised element of their SACE.

With more than 20 IB subjects recognised within this scheme, Aberfoyle Park High School students have a unique opportunity to undertake courses beginning in year 11, which will ultimately contribute to their university journey post-secondary school.
