Welcome to Term 4
Last Friday the Year 12 students completed their journey at Marian Catholic College. We celebrated their faith journey with a 10am Mass, followed by their Final Assembly at 12 pm. Both events were live-streamed so that families could be part of our celebrations, despite the physical restrictions that are currently necessary.
The students have still taken part in festivities with their Homeroom and subject teachers and have enjoyed their final days celebrating together. Despite COVID altering their Yr 12 journey this group have weathered the challenge with resilience and a smile. We wish them all the best with their studies in the lead up to their exams and we look forward to celebrating with them again at their College Graduation when their HSC concludes.
At our Year 12 final assembly we thanked our outgoing College Captains Brooke, Imreet, Amanda and Connor for their service and leadership and inducted our College Leaders for 2022.
Claudia Torresan, Jayden Skirving, Nicolas Sartor and Lexi Salvestro will be outstanding leaders for the College. Today Yr 11 students also voted for their 2022 Prefects under the portfolios of Learning, Care, Faith, Service and Stewardship. We look forward to expanding our student leadership team and working together next year.
In the meantime, the Year 12 students will be attending Tutorials at the College. A timetable was sent to parents and students last week via Compass. I want to stress the importance of participating in these sessions along with organised study time at home. If students cannot make a session they are to email their teachers prior to the lesson. With only 4 weeks until the HSC it is pivotal that Year 12 students now refocus and become motivated to achieve their best possible result.
We are also pleased to report that on Tuesday, College Leaders presented our last three years worth of progress on Lyn Sharratt’s The Learning Collaborative to worldwide educational researcher Lyn Sharratt, along with the entire CEDWW Diocese of Schools and Leaders. The presentation was based on the targeted and strategic work that has taken place on College Improvement, building staff culture and capacity and as a result, student outcomes. I am pleased to report that Lyn Sharratt’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive, commending our College’s staff culture, persistence for excellence, priority of learning and our structures, including our Growth Action Plan interventions, our Gr8 Thinking, GAP, Numeracy and Igniting Writing Teams and our embedded Professional Learning Teams.
Due to the excellent results at the College, Lyn has asked to continue to collaborate with us as an example of excellence for her work with other schools. We wish to thank all the staff that have engaged with the program over the last three years, and look forward to continuing to build staff capacity and student engagement and learning as a result.
Yours in Learning,
Lora Segrave and Damien Herb
