Senior School

From the Head of Senior School

I congratulate those students who have been appointed and, in particular, our 2022 School Captains Ellie Slatter and Andrew Smith. This is a very fine group of young people, characterised by modesty yet a firm desire to work for the betterment and benefit of all in the school community. I feel the student body is in very good hands, and the staff and Executive are looking forward to working with them.

Wrapping up the Year

This year’s Year Twelve General students have by now effectively left the school. As their courses are finished they are not attending regular school, and we look forward to seeing them return for the Athletics Carnival and the Valedictory events. The ATAR students - those taking one or more ATAR subjects - are back for this week and next. After a few days off last week we have moved into the examination period – there is no new work to be covered; all assessments are done, and there is now just a huge effort to consolidate the information in all their subjects. As they are very well aware, after all their work this year there is still around 50% of their marks yet to be allocated – through the ATAR exams themselves. It is now time for a really concerted push; my challenge to the ATAR students is to find ten marks. Just two in each subject if they re taking five. It’s worth noting that increasing their mark by 10% from 50% to 60% increases their ATAR by around 20 – it’s roughly two ATAR points for each mark at that end of the spectrum as it is quite crowded. Students will get a great return on their investment of time and effort, so it is very well worth making a real effort.

Valedictory Chapel and Awards Ceremony

Details of the events of next week, including the Valedictory Chapel Service and Awards Ceremony, will be sent out shortly. I look forward to seeing many parents and families of our Year Twelve students on that occasion.
