Parenting Workshop Opportunities

At Curiosity we sincerely believe that it does take a village to raise a child.  As a Lutheran School we believe that God has created us to be in relationship with each other and that being within a community strengthens connections to one another and God.

At Curiosity we believe that our community of learners embraces not only the children in our care but the unique families who treasure them.  Our Centre is a place where no-one is a stranger and everyone is welcome.

With this in mind, we would like to offer to you an opportunity to explore the significant role that you play in parenting.  Parenting can be extremely challenging and rewarding all at the same time.  At times we have strategies that work to support our children and then the next day those strategies seem to not work at all.  Well, that is my experience.  In these moments it is helpful to have a collection of strategies that are grounded in developmental theories and an understanding of our children and of ourselves.

At Good Shepherd we will be running two parenting courses over the next two terms. One will be focussed on children from 5-8 years of age and the other with a focus on attachment theory and emotional resilience.  I invite you to attend either of these courses.

SAVE THE DATE - Circle of Security - Parent Workshop

At times parents can feel lost or without a clue about what their child is needing from them at that moment in time.  Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting Program is an 8 week program based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.

Using the COS-P model developed by the Circle of Security originators, our trained Facilitators work with parents and care-givers to help them to:

  • Understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs
  • Support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions.
  • Enhance the development of their child’s self-esteem.
  • Honour the innate wisdom and desire for their child to be secure

This course will be facilitated by Mary Raschella from Lutheran Community Care and Jacqui Gliddon.

Dates:

Tuesday from 9:15 - 11:30am.

August 3 to Sept 14.

A creche and morning tea will be provided.
