REMOTE AND FLEXIBLE LEARNING

So here we are again; Lockdown 4.0. The speed and ease with which everyone transitioned between school and home learning is a credit to all in our school community. The organisation, commitment and partnership between our parents and teachers has ensured that students continue schooling.

As we move into our second week of remote learning, teachers have made adjustments to plans and will soon be sending the WebEx lesson schedule for this Friday and for next week.

Adjustments to the lesson times have been made at some year levels in response to student needs. Lesson plans will also be posted so our students know what they are learning and why (learning intentions) and by when they have to have work completed.

Feedback to students about their learning:We expect that students will continue to give their best effort, just as they would if they were at school. In order to support this, teachers will be asking students to bring particular pieces of work to their small group lessons to share. Teachers and students work together to identify what the student is doing well and to set personalised learning goals for future focus. Instructions will be provided by teachers indicating any additional work to be submitted, how it will be submitted and by when.

WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

Once again, our School Captains have collaborated to put together a whole school assembly. This will be conducted via WebEx this Friday, 4 June at 3:00pm. They have designed the assembly to celebrate and share the wonderful things happening during remote learning. We hope you are able to save this time and date and can join us for our assembly online. (WebEx details will be posted via Compass)

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

With formal assessments almost complete, teachers have commenced the process of writing reports. Reports will be posted to parents via Compass on Thursday 24 June (the second last day of term 2).

2022 ENROLMENTS

At this point in time, we are unable to hold our regular school tours. To help confirm our numbers for 2022, we would appreciate it if all sibling enrolments were finalised this term. You can download the enrolment form from the school website, but please don’t hesitate to contact the school office if needed and we can forward you the details.

If you know of anyone at our local kindergartens or child care centres who are in our zone, please ask them to send in their forms ASAP.

Is Your Child Leaving the School?

We have already been advised of some students who are leaving MPS due to relocation or taking up scholarships at private schools, however, if you haven’t let us know that your child will be finishing at Murrumbeena, then can you please contact the office.

Being able to accurately identify student numbers assists us with staffing for 2022.

BUILDING UPDATES AND STUDENT DESIGN TEAM

Thankfully, construction is continuing and we are hopeful that our building refurbishments will be completed by the due date of 9 July.

Our aim is to have the school looking fabulous and ready to show our school community on the Open day being held on Saturday 14 August (11:00 – 1:00pm).

Student Design Team

After calling for volunteers from the year 5/ 6 students, we now have a team who will become interior designers. We have three open area learning spaces and the outdoor kitchen space, which the students will design.

Students will review the purpose of the space, eg. technology hub, space to collaborate, social interaction space etc. and will design the area with furnishings and fittings according to their set budgets.

We are fortunate to have the support of interior design lecturer Catherine Ryan from Holmesglen and her interior design students supporting each of year 5/ 6 design teams.

This is an exciting project and we look forward to sharing photos and ideas with you in upcoming newsletters.

STAY ACTIVE

When working or schooling from home, it is easy to fall into the ‘sit trap’. Be sure to allow time for movement and physical activity.

Here are some reasons why it’s so important for students:

Importance of Physical Activity for Children

  • Healthy growth and development
  • Better self-esteem
  • Stronger bones, muscles and joints.
  • Better posture and balance
  • A stronger heart
  • A healthier weight range
  • Social interaction with friends
  • Learning new skills while having fun.

Our PE teacher, Miss Seares, has provided lots of fun ways to keep moving in the ‘PE Choice Board’ which can be found on our school website (under the Remote Learning tab).

Take care everyone and hope to see you all soon.
