BLA Mock Court Competition
On Wednesday 19th May, five Year 12 Legal Studies students attended the Business Liaison Association’s Mock Court competition. The students gathered at the Cairns Magistrates Court along with other participants from local schools in the region to re-enact the case R v Sen. Using case law, legislation and witness statements, students were able to explore and construct a legal argument relating to police powers and responsibilities when conducting a warrantless search.
From this hands-on experience students were provided with an insight into what a career in law would be like. All students were pleased with their performance, with the team achieving a third-place honourable mention. The overall experience was very valuable to the students; in a short period of time they were required to work as a team, and gather and interpret information to form a case. It was a privilege to meet members of the local legal profession, including Mr Shaune Williams from James Cook University. We deeply appreciate the opportunity provided to us to meet such esteemed legal members and mingle with other students in Cairns who share a passion for law.
The team, consisting of Stephanie Malahoff, Aryan Nair, Bodhi Dunn, Kaylee Grima and Sarah Jegou, are thoroughly pleased with their performance and are congratulated on their fantastic achievements.
