Despite going into lockdown at the end of the term, St John’s still had plenty of sport happen in Term 2. Here is a recap of what students were involved in.
In the very first week of Term 2, certain St John’s students participated in the SIS Swimming Carnival. Overall it was a great results with plenty of ribbons given to students. Year 7 student Emma Jorissen was a standout winning many races and later invited back to represent the SIS team in the VSAC swim competition.
In the following week the entire school participated in the House Athletics Carnival at Casey Fields. Columba house managed to get the overall win and many students showed off their athletic capabilities. The following students were athletics champions in their year levels:

Another House Carnival that was held in Week 5 was the House Cross Country, with again Columba being the winning house. All students were involved in the 2.2km race and once again great to see all students out about whether it was running, jogging or walking. The following were the winners of their race:

Most of these winning students went on to complete in the SIS Cross Country held the following week at Baxter Park. Once again there were some fantastic individual results. Juan Wani came first in her division, Ashleigh Thatcher 3rd, Lennon Hughes 2nd and Mauro Dominic 3rd. St John’s also won the U/17 Boys pennant.
Also in Term 2 we have seen weekly sports been run as part of the SIS program. The sports have included:
Junior Girls Netball coached by Ms Sonia McNally
Junior Girls Softball coached by Ms Anna Nguyen
Junior Mixed Touch Rugby coached by Mr Mario Laing
Junior Boys Volleyball coached by Mr Mark Alexander
Junior Mixed Table Tennis coached by Mr John Loonstra
Intermediate Boys Volleyball coached by Mr Paul Wintle
Intermediate Girls Indoor Cricket coached by Mr Eamonn Farrelly
Intermediate Boys AFL coached by Mr Nathan Gard and Mr Simon Massouras
Senior Girls AFL coached by Ms Tania Robinson in a one off special game.
All teams have done a great deal of training and have seen some great results.
Special mention to the Junior Boys Volleyball team who not only won the Championship Pennant from SIS but also went undefeated all season and had zero sets scored against them. An amazing effort.
Throughout Term 1, St Johns has also hosted a Soccer Gala day for many primary schools. This opportunity allowed for the use of a our soccer and oval facilities to be used and was a great spectacle.
So with more sport on the horizon we look forward to further commitment and dedication from our students to get involved.
