Principal's Report

Jane King (Acting Principal)

Week 8 - Term 2

Whilst this fortnight saw us move into remote learning due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and the government's announcement of the necessary circuit breaker, it hasn't prevented the spirit of 'The Springs' shining through!  With such positive feedback from both families and students regarding the learning packs, we leapt on board and continued this delivery of remote learning.

As the Principal Class Team, we were extremely proud of how our school community pulled together during this tricky time.  Teachers have held whole class WebEx meetings each morning and additional whole class and small group meetings, which have certainly supported Pakenham Springs in remaining on track in learning, assessment, and reporting.

It has now been confirmed that by the time you are reading this, students are here, back onsite Friday the 11th of June.  No more crossing fingers and hoping to see students in classrooms and enjoying playgrounds, it has happened.  It certainly was a great day to have everyone back.

The Gazette reports: The acting principal at Pakenham Springs Primary School, Jane King, said that although remote learning wasn’t ideal, she believed the school community was working hard to make the most out of the situation and keep the students’ learning on track.

“[The Covid outbreak] is out of our control, but we’re trying to model resilience and make the most out of the situation.”

Mrs King said that in comparison to previous lockdowns, there were less organisational barriers to overcome when transitioning to remote learning and she wanted to thank all her staff and the entire school community for adjusting to the situation so smoothly.

“We’ve been quite fortunate at Pakenham Springs as all the staff jumped into action quite quickly.  This time around, we are right in the midst of our end-of-semester reporting, so we are ensuring we make the best use of this time,” Mrs King said.

We are trying to keep in touch, make sure learning and wellbeing are a top priority and we are using this time wisely to have the information we need to do our reporting.”
