Children transition smoothly to distance learning

The challenges of distance learning were yet again imposed upon everyone this week, but to the credit of our college community, the transition went smoothly and the teaching and learning program continued.

This week we acknowledged National Reconciliation Week, and in Italian, the children reflected on the theme ‘more than a word’ and ‘take action’. The children reflected on the importance of family to us and to the First Nations people and wrote words in Italian related to family.

In Music the children were asked to plan and design a musical instrument out of recyclables as part of their distance learning program. They were then asked to test their instrument by playing it to a song they already knew or by composing a new song using their knowledge of music notes.

Bookmaking has focused on the children as authors and the choices they make about how to represent characters, the setting and the sequence of events. The children have enjoyed collecting data and displaying it visually for interpretation and analysis. There has been an emphasis on reading each morning between 8.30am and 8.45am. When children arrive after 8.30am, they are to unpack their bag, go to their Pastoral Group area and read quietly. Once they have finished reading, they can play outside or continue reading independently. Today was the first day in implementing the procedure and it worked well.

Children reflect on God's presence

School of Wonder children have been reflecting on where we see God around us.

Children have written thoughtful prayers of thanks and identified where we see God around us and how God shows love through our environment.
