School Leaders

After Monday morning assembly, all grades across the school return to class and have a lesson about one of the expected behaviours that demonstrate our Mackellar values.  One week, we will learn how to demonstrate respect, and another week, we will learn how to be resilient.

Each week, selected students are awarded Student of the Week awards by teachers who have noticed that they have been portraying the values in the classroom or in the yard. At Mackellar, all students are expected to follow these values and respect them. We apply these values not just at school but hopefully, our students use them in every day life as well. We hope these will improve our social skills and everything in general.

Here’s an example of the year 6’s transitioning around the school whilst being mindful of others.

Mackellar is installing a new playground near The Hive. A visitor, Renee, came to Mackellar to meet with our student leadership team.  Renee said that she will help to make the playground safe and ensure that it meets Australian Safety Standards. She showed the student leadership team some designs and they discussed and planned how the playground might look. We all discussed the colour scheme, the design of the playground and asked loads of questions.

Also, a new playground that is replacing the old 3/4 playground will be available for everyone in Prep to Grade 6 early in term three. This new playground will be an amazing experience for kids here at Mackellar primary school because we haven’t had a new playground since 1991. Having a new playground has its benefits like increasing physical and social skills. It is an all access playground also ensuring students of all abilities will be able to have fun on our new playground.
