Sports News

NHS Sport

We are looking forward to another exciting year of Sport at Northcote. We had many successes last year and are hoping to build on that. This year Jack O’Shea has taken over the reigns as Sport Co Coordinator and has hit the ground running with a busy start to the year. Thank you to Sarah Blanchard who worked tirelessly in this role for the last 2 years. Jack knows that he has very big shoes to fill and is keen to take that challenge.

As usual Term 1 is a busy one with our summer sports kicking off in Week 3. First up is Senior Cricket. We are currently trying to gather interest from our Year 11&12 Students.  If any senior students are keen to represent NHS in the Division Cricket Competition to be played on Feb 12, please make yourself known to either Mr O’Shea or Pauline Dridan in the PE office as soon as possible. If we don’t get enough players we will not be entering a team.

Sport Surveys on myNorthcoteHigh

This week during tutorials, students will be asked to fill in Sports Surveys. Tutors will step students through this process. The survey allows us to capture the sports that students are interested in and add them to training sessions which we will be creating on compass.  This is a great opportunity for students to even try sports they have never played before.

Two big highlights for this term are our Swimming Carnival in Week 6 and our Athletics Carnival in Week 7.  This year our Swimming Carnival will be running in a different format and is no longer compulsory. We will be sending out more information in the next few weeks.

Due to the Athletics track being resurfaced at Collingwood, this year our Athletics Carnival will be held at Coburg Harriers Athletics club. Once again we will give more information as the date draws closer.

Good news: Sports Grant for Year 7s

Northcote High has received a grant of $2,500 from the Commonwealth Government's Sporting Schools Program for 2018. Congratulations and thank you to Sarah Blanchard for putting together the successful application. The grant will be used for specialist coaching and clinics in sports targeted at Year 7 students, with a particular focus on boosting participation in non-traditional areas.
