The new classrooms
A new relocatable double-storey classroom building (4 rooms) went in to action this week, giving staff and students additional space for general-purpose classes. The final stage of this development is to re-install the locker bays which were removed to make way for the construction. This is scheduled to happen over the next few weeks, which will then allow the remaining senior students awaiting a locker to be assigned. The next stage of the Performing Arts Centre build will commence shortly: in the meantime our Music program is well-established in its temporary home(s) near the Art and Food buildings. New signage around the school is also helping to distinguish our specialist spaces.
Whilst the new relocatable is a welcome addition, there continues to be a need for further permanent facilities to be built on site. Families may remember that last year the new Northcote Masterplan, designed by architects Baldasso Cortese, was signed off by the Department of Education. The school and the Northern Western Region are pitching for stages 1 and 2 of the Masterplan to be funded concurrently in the 2018 budget. In order to make this a reality we require our community to be active. School Council will be advocating for investment in the school throughout 2018 - stay tuned to find out how you can be part of this. See this link for the infographic shared by School Council in 2017.
Donations to the Northcote Thrive fund (Build) also enable the school to upgrade facilities. A great example of this is the Art and Design Hub developments, which were funded by the generous donations of our parent community.
