Welcome to the library
A big welcome from the library to all new students - and welcome back to everyone returning this year.
We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer with plenty of recreational reading! We have set up a favourite book display and would love to see students adding to it with books they have enjoyed. This can be a great help for other students looking for inspiration on what to read.
Over the next few weeks we will be running library orientation sessions for all new and returning students - an overview of the library and its services is also included below. We also encourage students to come and see us with questions or suggestions throughout the year.
The Library Team (Jenny, Justine, Kathryn and Chloe)
Opening Hours 2018
- Monday 8.15 am – 3.30pm
- Tuesday to Friday 8.15 am – 4pm
- Open at recess and at lunch time
Any changes to hours due to special events will be advertised.
Borrowing
Students can borrow up to six books for two weeks. Items on loan can be renewed once either at the library desk or online by signing into the Library webpage (http://library.nhs.vic.edu.au) using your Compass username and password. Students can also place their own reservations and check their reading history.
We also have a range of board games for students to borrow during recess, lunchtimes and after school.
Services
Photocopiers and printers can be accessed from student’s iPads, laptops and networked computers.
All students are allocated printing credits at the start of the year, through their Compass username and PIN. Please ask library staff for assistance.
Quick access PCs
The Library has 3 networked PCs available for students, as well as 2 catalogue stations.
Collections
The Library has an excellent fiction collection catering mainly to teenagers and young adults. Library staff encourage students to recommend new titles and authors. Our non-fiction collection covers mostly curriculum areas as well as some recreational reading. We also have a biography collection, graphic fiction (manga), magazines, newspapers, and streamed ClickView programs.
Our language collections include Chinese, Italian, French and Greek books.
Student Assistant Program
We run a student assistant program for students to help in the library during recess, lunchtimes and after school. Students Assistants also meet regularly with library staff as our student advisory team.
