Focus on Physical Education

Physical Education Report

Term two sees the return of our first house event for 2021, Cross Country. All student from Years 3 – 6 had the opportunity to run laps of the school cross country course. Each lap completed was worth two house points—it was fantastic to see how many people completed the full distance and pushed themselves. Long distance running is both a physical and mental challenge and I am very proud of all the students who took on that challenge and scored some points for their house. The winning house will be announced at our mid-term assembly.

Attention in PE now switches from cross country to athletics practise. The Year 3 – 6 Athletics Carnival is the next school carnival, scheduled to take place on Wednesday 28 July at Collingwood Harriers Track.

For the remainder of term two, all Year 3 – 6 students will be learning some Track and Field skills, which will help them when participating at this carnival.

Term two is an important time for the Foundation to Year 2 students as they practise the fundamental movement skills of throwing and catching. Throwing and catching are essential skills for many of the sports people play. Across the term, students will engage in a variety of stations to help them practise and improve these skills. They discuss and look at the techniques of these skills as well as how they can improve their own throwing and catching. The aim is to help students develop good habits that become automatic each time they perform them. Below are Foundation students working on their throwing and catching.
