Principal's Report

Breakfast Celebration

In our last newsletter, I mentioned the many exciting events that the students had to look forward to. This week I am focusing on community events, which family members get to enjoy.

At our celebration breakfast on Friday, our mums and special people had a lovely time in the autumn sun. The format of this event changed in response to parent feedback, aligning it with the Father’s Day breakfast. It was fantastic to see people enjoying the bacon and egg rolls with a cup of coffee, whilst spending time with their children and catching up with new and old friends. Schools are community places and it was wonderful to see FPS once again filled with the chat and laughter of a mass gathering.

Thank you!

Thank you to the many parents who volunteered on the day. A big thank you to parent, Jennifer Clarke, for her organisation, including some lovely, creative activities for everyone to be involved in. The event raised $940 and the Community Committee will discuss how these funds are to be spent.

Trivia Night

The Trivia Night is not only the biggest social night on the FPS calendar, but arguably it seems, one of the most sought after events in town! The demand for tickets far exceeded our expectations, and we wish that everyone who wanted to go was able to get a ticket. Finding a local venue with a suitable capacity and availability during COVID times is a challenge, and we recognise that some may be disappointed to have missed out.

If any further tickets do become available, they will be released to those who have added their name to the waitlist. If you are interested in a ticket or two, please add your name here by clicking on the 'Tickets' link.

Silent Auction

In collecting donations for the trivia night raffle, the organisers were amazed at the generosity of the local community and received donations far beyond what you would expect in a raffle.

Consequently, an online silent auction will be held too. If you have a business or service and would like to offer up a silent auction item, please contact Maree Nowak (maree@seechangept.com) by the end of day, Friday 14 May.

Next week, a link will be sent via Compass showing the items on auction and giving you the chance to place your bids.

Orchestra, Choir & Brass Performance

Another event back on the school calendar is our Orchestra, Choir and Brass performing with Thornbury High School (THS) on Monday 24 May, at 6pm at their new Performing Arts Centre.

Our school has benefitted greatly from the tutelage of THS teachers, as well as opportunities to participate in their productions and concerts. Families of Orchestra, Choir and Brass students have been contacted with the event details.

Mid-Term Assembly

Put Friday 28 May in your diary, as we hold our mid-term assembly at 3pm. We are particularly excited about this assembly as it will be held in the Fig Tree area (weather permitting). The assembly will include a performance from the Choir, Orchestra and Brass.

Principal Morning Tea

Join me on Friday 21 May, from 9am in the staff room for morning tea and a chat! Each term, these morning teas are held as an informal opportunity to find out what’s going on around the school, ask questions, meet other community members and make connections. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Year 6 Campers

What a wonderful week our Year 6 campers experienced in Canberra. Their enjoyment of the week was evident in their photographs, as well as their conversations. They have made memories that will last a lifetime.

I thank the students for their attitude and fortitude during an action-packed week. I heard such glowing reports of how they represented our school. Thank you to teachers, Daniel, Jourdan, Monique and Sarah, for their coordination of a camp that presented unique complications, as a result of our COVID world. Thank you also to parents Chris, Daniel, Mal and Andrey for giving up a week of their busy lives to help make this camp happen.

Bike Helmets

The school has received reports of students travelling to and from school on bikes and scooters without helmets. A reminder that all bike and scooter riders are required to wear a bike helmet in Victoria. More information can be found on the Vic Roads website

School Tours for 2022 Foundation Families

Prospective 2022 Foundation families are now able to register to attend school tours, which run between 20 May and 16 June. If you know of families looking to enrol their child at FPS, direct them to our school website for the enrolment process, timeline and relevant forms.

If you are a current FPS family and have a kindergarten child who is ready to commence school in 2022, we ask that you submit an enrolment form by the end of term (Friday 25 June) to facilitate the planning of staffing and resources for the coming year.

Have a great week.
