Year 8 News

In this season of snap lockdowns and storms, the Year 8’s have been writing their reflections on life and school and learning. Here are some of these reflections:

“I don’t mind the lockdown during the winter. I like sleeping in”.

“I liked the work – it wasn’t too hard and I could do it at my own pace. I missed seeing my friends”.

“I really liked spending some time with my dog and my rabbit”.

“This year the lockdown was even harder. I don’t like spending so much time on the laptop so I liked it more when we were allowed to go outside and do things like going for long walks and counting the distance on the app. I also liked it when we got to cook”.

“I don’t mind reading so I could go and read but sometimes that meant that I was in bed a lot”.

“I wanted to spend some time with my friends so sometimes we could go for a walk together. I found it hard to concentrate on school cause there were so many distractions”.

Throughout Term 2 the Year 8s have also been exploring the idea of Respect. They are looking at this idea from the perspective of music. Understanding and maintaining respectful relationships is a necessity if an environment is to thrive and embrace the idea of high standards.

Students have been selecting music and identifying individuals in our society who represent the idea of respect. Here are some of their discoveries in music, in sport and in life.

Respect by Aretha Franklin – celebrated strong women who accomplish lots of things

Muhammed Ali – he always defended the underdog

Anne Frank – Her tragedy showed that everyone should be valued and protected

Black Lives Matter Movement – understanding all people are equal

From a Distance – a song about harmony and everyone getting along

We look forward to a steady and calm Term 3.
