Camp news!!
Somers Camp
Hi, I'm Caitlin, on May 3rd to May 9th I went to Somers Camp.
The camp lasted only 7 days due to NAPLAN (normally lasts 9). This meant that I missed a week of school! Though I missed a week of school, it was completely worth it because either way I learnt new things. We did activities that involved learning such as bird watching, beach combing, orienteering, reflection writing, weather, reading and more.
Our days started at 7am (meaning we had to be ready for the next event by then) and finished at 8:45pm. It was a very long day's worth of activities compared to a normal school day!
We also did activities that required a lot of tolerance, resilience, bravery and precision. These included the challenge swing, standing over 18m high. You got pulled up by your group and then you had to pull a little green ball that sent you flying down. Another example was the flying fox. This was very high off the ground and a very low drop down. It was extremely fast and extremely fun! There was also the high ropes course. If you did it in the wind and cold like I did, it was hard. I personally took the harder way across. It hurt my hands A LOT but I managed.
As you can see I had a very fun time at Somers camp. There is so much more to tell you but I would be here forever! Somers camp was an awesome opportunity to meet new friends, challenge yourself and most importantly have fun.
You got to learn a lot about yourself and learn different techniques of how to accomplish things. Somers camp truly is “An experience of a lifetime.”
Camp Rumbug
The Year 5/6 students braved the cold to head up to Camp Rumbug. There were campfire songs and discos at night. The students enjoyed many activities such as the giant swing, flying fox, canoeing, bush cubby building, initiatives, tree climbing, archery and every ones favourite, the mud run.
Many thanks to Mrs Cattanach and Mr Corcoran for helping out and Mr Hodder and Mrs Stuart for also coming along, it was greatly appreciated by the teachers and students.
