Victorian State Schools Spectacular

Our VSSS rehearsals have been continuing every week and all of our uniform orders have now been placed....a positive sign towards a full arena performance (despite another lockdown hiccup). Our next mass DANCE rehearsal is Tuesday 13th July in our school gym and the CHOIR will be heading into the city on Wednesday July 21st and Wednesday August 11th. More information will follow.

Production Help Required

I am (still) looking for people to help me with the following:

  • Sewing of simple costumes
  • Designing and printing our Performance Program (which we sell on the night)
  • Photographer
  • Prop makers/painters
  • I also need any emerald green fabric you can donate

Please send me an email penelope.lang@education.vic.gov.au if you are able to help with any of the above. I will seek backstage help closer to the event.

Student Learning

All students have been very busy polishing their dance steps for our school production. We have been working on entrances and exits, lines and spaces and have begun using props and costumes. They all deserve a well earned rest...our Preps certainly enjoyed their relaxation time with me this week.

I have attached some information below about costume requirements  (which will also be sent home via compass). Please note that costumes are NOT due at school just yet but I thought parents might appreciate the holiday time to start getting organised.

I wish you a happy and safe break. I look forward to a fun-filled term 3.

Warm regards

Penelope Lang

Production Costumes

I am very excited to have the creative mind and sewing skills of Kelly Ingram who will be overseeing the costume creations for our show this year. We will be providing most of the students’ costumes but we do need your assistance with some basic items. During the holidays it would be great if you could source the following items for your child:

Foundation:

Girls will need a short sleeve plain white t-shirt and YELLOW leggings (Big W have the leggings). Plain white canvas shoes.

Boys will need a short sleeve plain white t-shirt and RED leggings (Big W have the leggings). Plain white canvas shoes.

Year One:

All students will need black leggings or jeans, black short sleeve t-shirt, black shoes and socks.

Year Two:

Girls will need blue denim shorts or skirt and a pair of STRIPED (horizontal) knee high socks or tights in any of these colours: black and white, hot-pink and white, blue and white, orange and white or any fluro colour and white.

Boys will need ripped denim jeans (black or blue) and a plain white short sleeved t-shirt.

We would love the students to wear bright coloured high-top shoes (fluro would be great) or trainers. You might like to get creative in the holidays and paint your own!

Year Three/Four:

We are creating over 35 different costumes. More information will follow but please let me know if you can assist with basic sewing or cutting.

Year Five/Six:

I will be speaking to each actor individually. Backstage crew will need to wear all black. Our school production t-shirt is also suitable. Please let me know if you are able to help us with sourcing the actor’s costumes.

Parent Helpers

Due to changing Covid restrictions and DET Operational Guidelines I am currently unable to confirm, at this stage, if I can have parent helpers for our dress rehearsal and performance nights.

I am still looking for a photographer and a graphic designer to help with our program.

I look forward to hearing from anyone soon….please.
